Why the Hell is Ricky Burns getting a title shot?

So he should've settled at Euro level and said that's that?

It's most fighters dream that when they turn pro, they can one day become world champion... what was he meant to do, show no ambition? Turn down good pay days? Say nah, I'm not going to bother going up too world level... HerolGee on boxingforum24 will rate my higher if I stick at European level?

Ricky isn't deserving of this shot based on his last performances and results, but you can't knock him for carving out a very good career for himself and the fact that he's won world titles at two different weights.

He may not be the fighter he was a few years back, but his name still carries some weight and he puts bums on seats up in Scotland. If anything, it's good for Scottish boxing as it'll hopefully mean a few of the other boys will get outings on his show.

 

Burns can do what he wants, I am telling you how I would rate him. Is that a problem for you?

so you wouldn't rate him higher if he had been in honest contests? you think faking it gets him more points? Fakery is a pile of shyt in my opinion, but if you like that kind of shyt you can eat all you want of it.

Martinez, Mitchell and Katsidis are Burns' best wins. He would not have achieved these victories if he had stayed at Euro level.

 

and yet 2 of these wins are wholeheartedly euro/commonwealth level - an interim title holder, a commonwealth champ. The only exception is Martinez, whom I am willing to concede that Burns briefly reached world level with, only to lose that level almost immediately.

It is appalling how he has milked money from a fanbase who who are too devout to see he was a one hit wonder. I honestly don't think he is "the nice guy", a nice guy wouldn't continue such fakery time and again accepting obvious defeats as gifted wins. It just prolongs the time he takes his fans for a ride.

but you can't say that beltran was on roids when he fought ricky because they would have both been drug tested afterwards and eh would have failed just like he did when he won the belt :good

 

He isn't a bum, that's nonsense. That word gets thrown around with no real reason on here. Is he deserving of a title shot at 140? No, not at all. At least Di Rocco has held the EBU strap at that weight

 

Or he was more clever.

I don't know how they work but I'm a firm believer that he didn't just decide to be a cheat now all of a sudden.
