especially against a banger with small gloves on! hope brophy can do it but the odds are stacked against him.
I'm pretty sure i remember hearing that brophy had been sparring callum smith etc from gallachers gym so it might be callum he is talking about. think he does sparring there regularly with brophy and his lightweight lewis ritson. I'm sure billy will correct em if I'm wrong :good
How does it mean jack? Playing chess would mean jack to a fight. Sparring is the closest replication you can get of a fight and the best preparation so it clearly doesn't mean jack. I love all these experts on here, most of whom have clearly never laced up a glove, but make sweeping statements as if they are fact when their knowledge is gained from things they've overheard.
I can say 100% sparring means jack **** in a fight... I've seen boys who look a million dollars in the gym sparring but can't carry it into the ring.. Sparring is part of training you can't win or lose a spar but you can lose a fight.. Best example is Eubank jnr smashed Froch in sparring yet lost to Billy Jo Saunders.
I'm pretty sure that billy is one of the biggest culprits to say that sparring doesn't mean anything when it comes to fights, unless it involves one of his fighters atsch i have boxed and coach at a club and tbh sparring can be a true reflection of how a fight can go but realistically there is so much variables that mean it doesn't show a true reflection at all i.e. 1 where each fighter is in their training camp coming up to a fight 2 is fighter a or fighter b working on a specific technique during the spar 3 is fighter a or fighter b at the end of a hard weeks training or work and isn't as fresh as the other fighter 4 if fighter a or fighter b knows the other fighter is only learning or not in their league they can take things easier than they would in a fight 5 most boxers now use the full face bar headgear and the fighters are usually wearing big 16oz gloves so that means that neither fighter a or fighter b are taking the same punishment they would against the other if the headgear was off and they are wearing 8oz or 10oz gloves. 6 neither fighter will have the nerves or pressure that comes with a real bout there is more variables but i have just named 6 that could change the outcome if it were to change from sparring to a real fight pal:good
that would have been in the lead up or directly after the smith vs fielding fight when he would have been saying fielding beats groves and degale to convince everyone that callum smith is best smw in britain. he is just giving his mates joe glacier and callum smith a wee big up thats all:hey:good
Brophy has been sparring Callum Smith in the past week mate. He's also sparred him before when down helping Paul with both Abraham fights I believe.
