Brophy's cashing out vs Groves April 9th

He stopped a Kenny Anderson that took the fight on 2 weeks notice and had Groves in serious trouble at the end of round 2 (think it was round two?).

Obviously Groves was a novice back then and has went on to achieve great things and has the experience that goes with it. But there are questions that loom over Groves, is he still fresh, does he still have it mentally? Time will tell.

 

While it may be a fight that GG is almost certain to win, to compare it to AJ v Cornish is laughable!

AJ is on the up and has been putting all his opponents to sleep...early! Confidence is booming with him and rightly so. Cornish was there for the pay day. No harm in that, he has a family to support. But he knew he didn't have the talent or desire to take that fight past round 1.

GG on the other hand, while a top level fighter, has been KO'd and wobbled more times than he'd care to remember whilst Brophy has notched up a respectable enough win against Tobias Webb in December.

A good enough test for Groves and a good opportunity for Brophy.

 

Let's remember 2 things here Kenny can proper bang!! Does David hit that hard? His record doesn't suggest this... Groves stopped him Kenny was in camp for longer than 2 weeks.. He didn't exactly gas he's was beaten by the better fighter. . Groves problem was always his engine. . Shane Mcguigan with have the sorted.. Two good coaches coming up against each other. . I think Shane might well be the best ahead of Joe Gallagher in the UK can Billy gatecrash the party and get his tactics right

 

1 win respectable win and 16 fights 1 ko against against George Groves 22 wins 17 ko. And you say a test for Groves. atsch

Least Cornish had a bit of power. I get people from Scotland support there fighters I commend that :good but if it was any other fighter from Africa or Eastern Europe Groves was coming up against with the record and profile of Brophy it would be called a total miss match.

Its a huge task for him and come April 9th if the fight goes beyond 4 rounds I will be here saying I talked a load of ****.

 

Billy, I do not mean this disrespectfully I like and respect you and wish Brophy the best of luck, but you are saying Brophy more than held his own with Degale in sparring, forgetting that Groves beat him twice for real.

 

In fairness Groves best him in 2 fights that could of went either way.. I had Degale winning both. One thing I said to Billy a few year back is we are all human just flesh and bones. Everyone can be hurt and everyone can be defeated. This fight is one man against another the better man should win but you never know.. On a joking side though Billy you do love a sparring story remember that time in your gym when................... haha

 

Yes that is true and I would be happy for David and Billy if they pulled of the upset but I just cant see it happening.

 

One thing is for sure - Brophy's name is getting out there and nobody can knock him for taking the chance!

 

George is levels above Paul and Kenny Imo George will stop him.as Brophy doesn't have power to stop George coming forward. But Brophy had enough fights to step up may as well try or will never know.

This came as a surprise to me when it was announced yesterday, definitely didn't see it coming.

I've followed Brophy for a little while, especially with Billy giving us insight here and there, he seems a decent fighter, knows his way around and you have to give him credit for taking this fight. It's a MASSIVE step up in class and as he recently said himself his apprenticeship is now over - big opportunity and one that he simply cannot turn down with it being on a big PPV event.

That said, on paper it is a 'mismatch' considering the levels we've seen them both perform at. I've heard bits and bobs about Brophy doing well against Paul Smith, but Groves is on another level to Smith and sparring is sparring as they say.

Groves will be used to the big stage whereas it'll all be a new experience for Brophy!

Hopefully he performs well and Scotland get behind him, I don't see Groves taking the fight lightly as some have said given that it's on a big show, he want's to get back in title contention and also show improvement under McGuigan.

Groves TKO inside 6 for me.

Terry I have never said that simply because they have never sparred, were are you getting your info mate, yes Brophy has sparred every other SMW apart from cox

Still don't get why people come on a boxing forum just to bait the most experienced and knowledgeable member in Nelson. Go and have a tug of your that bored or maybe go to a gym and show em how it's done!!

Brophy for me loses this badly. Mainly as I rate Groves so highly i think he is world class. Maybe as DM said it could be another Burns V Martinez that would be amazing, can't see it being competitive.
