Yeah, he was a superman moving at light speed prior to the crash, but needed help just moving around, after it. He also had a super KO punch prior to the crash, but his arms were broken and he lost the punch. Yadda-yadda. Whenever he loses or doesn't look impressive, it's because of the crash. Whenever he wins, it's despite the crash.

So sir if you think that Pep had more "attention" given to his career than Saddler did was based on RACE alone, than to please your political correctness why don't you put an asterisk on every white fighter and and just get your rocks off..You'll feel better...The immortal willie Pep deserves better than your remarks...And by the way sir, why is Henry Armstrong considered in the top 5 P4P fighters ever and Sandy Saddler isn't ? ...Bringing race up into boxing threads unneccesarily is killing our
    Boxing forum...
P.S. Look up the records of Willie Pep and Sandy saddler and you will see that Pep beat several top featherweights who whipped Sandy Saddler. You might be better informed...

I said no such thing and don't know enough about Sandler's career to have an opinion. I simply asked you to expound upon your post. Pep is one of my favorites, for what it's worth, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with wondering about whether race colored the way people viewed their achievements differently.

PS - Plenty of white fighters received more attention and opportunities in the twentieth century because of race. Do you doubt that?

Senya. Two words to your sarcastic post. B.S.
What other fights Pep lost in his prime that he lost and needed excuses
from me or others on ESB ???? NAME ONE POST THAT I COMMENTED ON PEP AFTER A LOSS FROM ANY FIGHTER THAT I MADE AN EXCUSE ON A THREAD... You can have your own opinion but not your own made up FACTS...

Anyone who degrades Willie Pep should have their head examined.

    Agree.
But it's a shame so many downgrade Saddler.

Why do I answer your foolishness escapes me? So if a white fighter Pep
or any Caucasian fighter beats a black opponent the result of the fight should be investigated ? Political correctness run amok...Sayonara...

Who degrades Sadler? Only those whose opinion is as poor as Seamus.

I don't know either but I'm pretty sure the result would go better if you replied to what I actually wrote instead of trying to turn me into a politically correct strawman. Did my questions strike a nerve? Are you uncomfortable thinking about the role of race in America? :think

You saw it yourself that my post was full of sarcasm, it had to be exaggerated. I just see it very convenient that while Pep keeps winning nobody recalls that he was in a plane crash. As soon as he is defeated by Saddler, people are claiming the crash injury had much to do with that. Btw, what were the excuses for the loss to semi-retired Sammy Angott?

There are none. He lost to a former undisputed lightweight champion who used a suffocating inside game and a lot of holding, tactics that Saddler used effectively and improved upon 7 years later. Angott had "retired" for only a couple of months in late 1942 in the midst of a 12 month series of bouts that saw him fight Robinson, Pep, and Armstrong. Angott would later recapture a portion of the lightweight title. No shame in losing to a solid fighter like "The Clutch".

Pep had done better when Angott started holding and mauling in the second half of the fight, than when Sammy fought as a counter-puncher against aggressive Pep (as Pep often fought, pressuring the opponent non-stop) in the first half.
