Marciano's record with Lewis' opponents.

What's your issue with Marciano? Never was there a hwt champion before or since that should be well thought of.....fought everyone no matter their color, came to every bout in great shape and retired undefeated. Yet you are doing your best to perform intellectually corrupt arguments to blacken his achievements. Arguments that can be made regarding any hwt champion. Very porous to anyone with a brain what you are doing here.

 

Henry Akinwande alone would have a nine-inch height advantage, an 18-inch reach advantage (nearly two feet - 68 inches to Henry 86-inch reach), and a 40-pound weight advantage over Rocky Marciano.

Then there's Razor Ruddock, Tony Tucker, David Tua, Evander Holyfield twice, Mike Tyson, Vitali Klitschko ... even Morrison and Mercer ... and Golota (coming off the Bowe fights) ... and Bruno and Gary Mason (no Don C0ckels) ... and McCall twice (Oliver was going to go the distance) and Rahman twice ...

Not a lot of easy nights for the Rock in there. I'm not seeing him get to 44-0.

I'd say Rocky loses at least six. Maybe more.

 

Surviving that schedule with only 6 losses would be a tremendous accomplishment for Marciano.

 

Marciano liked to fight the bigger hwts. In his crouch he became to hard target as big hwts had to now reach down to hit him. In close the bigger men could do nothing against his bodywork. Ever try hitting a 300 pound heavy bag? I have and I weigh 220 pounds. Can't budge it and after trying literally felt like my shoulders were out of their sockets. Rocky hit a 300 pound bag and moved it. For any weight this is remarkable. The guy could bang.

 

This is fantasy. Marciano never fought any remotely decent heavies the size of the men listed above.

 

Why are you obsessed with his 300-lb heavybag? The way you describe his power, its amazing that so many sub-200lb fighters lasted so many rounds with him!

You don't know the sport of boxing. Being big does not automatically give an advantage.

Not many in hwt history could work a 300 pound heavy bag like Marciano. The guys power was off the charts. Try it sometime and you will see why.

 

How do you know who could work a 300 pound heavy bag like Marciano? Did you test each of them privately? Do you have footage?

 

I've been around the sport intimately since 1971. The amateur you are I would expect you have been watching boxing on TV the past few years. Few fighters at any weight have used a 300 pound heavy bag in training.

I see Marciano crushing the bag with more power than Tua and Chisora

 

No one here has an issue with Marciano. I think everybody recognizes, that he was a great champion, blessed with tremendous heart, stamina and punching power - assets that enabled him to rise to the top, despite his physical shortcomings. He should be admired for that.

However, we can't be blind to the fact, that he was very lucky to come along when he did - in an era of small heavyweights, where the greats he met were mostly on the downslide. This is no knock against Marciano, as he beat the best that were available, and ducked no one. We can't ask for more than that.

What most sane people DO have an issue with is this idea, that just because he went 49-0 in his OWN time, he would enjoy the same success against the bigger heavyweights that have come along since the 50s. This is simply not realistic, imo. Anyone who honestly believes, he would overpower guys like Liston, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Lewis, etc. and grind them down for a stoppage win, lives in a dream world!

And what is this about a 300-lb heavy bag? You really think he could do something to/with such a bag that Liston and Foreman couldn't?

 

Marciano wouldn't do as well as Lewis. There's simply too much weight on the scales against him. When Lewis had an off night he could often fall back on the fact that he was so big and strong. Rocky would need to be 100% every night, and in his early career he was a bit crude.

Let's put it like this: I'd say that almost every fight on Lewis' resume is winnable for Marciano. But all of them together? Nah. He's going to get L's.

 

this is the conclusion when you think with your head rather than a whimsical love of the under dog.
At least 6 of Lewis' challengers have more than a good chance of beating him to a pulp.
As for his low crouch bothering fighters with a foot longer reach, it won't happen.it works against similar sized fighters but not against the 6ft-3ins/6ft-4ins challengers Lewis faced.
I can't see him lasting long against Tyson either.

 

Does Marciano get to start boxing at 15 and stay in the amateurs for 8 or 9 years ?
