some upcomming important heavy weight fights: German Edmund Gerber(still havent figured out his real name,he speaks russian without an accent) 25-2 squares off against Brian Minto (41-10) on the undercard of Chagaev vs Browne in Chechnya's capital Grozny on march the 5th. Obviously, some people still hope that Gerber can make some noise at heavy weight. Minto shouldnt be a match for him. Christian Hammer alias Cristian Ciaconu (18-4) takes on M.Sprott (42-25) in Romania's capital Bucharest on march the 18th.Hammer should be able to take a totally shot M.Sprott out of action within the distance. Swedish heavy weight hope Adrian Granat (11-0) will meet Serbian toughman Samir Kurtagic(12-8) on the undercard.Kurtagic has a good beard and has already shared the ring with quite a few good names.Interesting to see whether Granat can stop the Mr.Iron Chin or not. Andrzej Wawryzk(31-1) will fight his compatriot Marcin Rekowski(17-2) on the undercard of Adamek vs Molin in Poland on april the 2nd. Quite interesting fight IMO.Could really go either way. Undefeated Russian heavy weight Sergej Kuzmin(6-0) is scheduled to take on his undefeated compatriot Vladimir Tereshkin(18-0-1).Kuzmin has already beaten the likes of Darnell Wilson and Costa Junior in his short pro career whereas Tereshkin's call to fame is his victory over Russian giant Orlov.Very interesting to see how Kuzmin fares against Tereshkin. An impressive performance will surely make some waves in- and outside Russia.
Wawrysk v.s Rekowski and Gerber v.s Minto are the fights with intrigue. The rest are squash matches. The winner of those two retains some relevancy as fringe contenders. Wondering if Sprott has enough to give the light hitting Hammer a night of hard work, or does he get bombed out early again? Not too long ago he would have given Hammer a tough fight and taken a few rounds off him. Kurtagic is notoriously durable and cagey, Granat would do well to stop him(not going to happen) I really like this one because he finally gets some more rounds and experience here instead of another early rd KO. Great learning fight. Don't let Tereshkin's record fool you... He doesn't have a chance in hell here, Kuzmin is levels above him in terms of ability/potential. He's being brought in to lose. I'll be surprised if he lasts the distance. Minto/Gerber is a tight one... But I think Minto has seen better days and Gerber while limited might have enough of a punch to get him out of there. Gerber has had some question decisions but if he can hurt Chisora then he certainly has enough to get Minto out of there provided he lands the right shot. Wawrysk v.s Rekowski is an interesting one I agree... A true 50/50 fight.... No idea who wins this one, both guys are fighting at nearly the exact same level. Lean slightly towards Rekowski I guess.
I ve already seen two of Tereshkin's fights, but that was a few years ago.He is no bum but you are right in saying that he doesnt play in Kuzmin's league. I also think that the two Polish heavy weight's clasy will probably be the most interesting one of the four scheduled fights.Could really go either way,but I for one favour Wawryzk over his compatriot.Just my gut feeling.Rekowski is too stiff for Wawrzyz IMO.
Gerber by ko in round two.He showed a good and convincing performance against Minto.I am looking forward to his next outing to a box ring.He could make some noise here in Europe,I guess.
Hammer alias Ciaconu took Sprott out of action in the very first round by brutal ko. Schwarz's courageous and promising young opponent Ilja Mezencev showcased his skills on a local fight card in Germany 's second biggest city Hamburg yesterday. HIs opponent was a czech no-hoper,but the result is still not known-at least to me. Anyway! The Russian-German is extremely young but can bang and move quite impressively. No shame to lose to Schwarz.I guess in about 2 or 3 years the young lad will be more than ready for Schwarz or other fighters who play in Schwarz' dimension. Interesting young heavy weight!!
Mezencev won by ko in round 1.A very young heavy with very entertaining style and and telling firepower. According to the news German heavy weight Wallisch has got an offer to fight David Haye in London on may the 21st. Wallisch has already accepted the fight and the contract is still not signed. Interesting news! Walllisch's last performance was horrible.Sure,he won every round of his encounter with that journeyman from Croatia but the way he won that fight didnt bode well for his future. He looked like a clumsy and slow lumberjack lacking any determination and ambition. However, he had shown some truly impressive peformances earlier in his career.( for example his memorable fight with Saglam). He is probably still the best German or German based heavy out there but he has wasted a lot of precious time by inactivitiy. All in all Wallisch will/would be a step up from De Mori.
