Who has better defense between golovkin and canelo?

The way I see it they both have good defense with their style of fighting. Canelo dodges away from punches making the opponent miss. Golovkin allows the opponent to partially land by deflecting punches with his arms, shoulders and gloves or leaning back to take the power out.

I think canelo has the better defense in that the punches are missed versus partially landed punches, but both defensive styles are catered to their offensive style.

They are both top of the line elite fighters, if they weren't great fighters they wouldn't have so many obsessed haters.

 

That's a tough one. I think both guys have good defences :think

Canelo is a boxer at heart and likes to fight behind his guard, throwing counter-combinations. GGG's footwork is very effective for his offence and defence. His power also discourages opponents from getting too brave.

I'd lean towards Canelo but I think both of them are somewhat under-appreciated in this aspect.

 

Golovkin.. his +/- (hit and don't get hit) ratio is higher than quackelo's. He's also a better counter puncher

 

Golovkin is a far better boxer than many give him credit for.

He has great footwork. Sometimes reminds me of a big Chavez Snr.

Canelo won't be able to keep him off.

 

GGG he can fight defensively and boring when he wants to. such as vs lemiuex

 

Canelo. GG is not proven his defense against a top elite fighter yet.

 

I agree.. Canelo slips punches, the most I've seen GGG do is block punches with his gloves and rarely moves his head... I got to go with Canelo.

 

Theres a great video on Golovkin on youtube that showcases his "evasive aggression". I think it's important to note where a fighter is standing when they're slipping or blocking punches. Golovkin spends much more time on the inside than Canelo does where it's harder not to get hit. Despite that Golovkin makes his ****onent miss just as much as Canelo does. He's no Lomachenko on the inside but Canelo is far from that as well.

 

I totally disagree... Canelo's upper body movement is great... look at his fights with trout, mosley and Cotto for proof... I'M being honest and I've yet to see GGG slip punches,all he does is block either with his gloves or his face.. I see it for what it is and refuse to partake in any discussion where I'm asked to overrate GGG. I will not give him extra credit.

 

Canelo. Canelo parrys, and slips pinches extremely well (very slick), you rarely see Canelo get hit flush with power shots.

GGG had good defense, but manages to get hit clean all the time, and against sub-par opposition.

 

Canelo won't even get in the ring, GGG can't touch him!

Has to be Canelo doesn't it? so far Alvarez has shown a more versatile defensive range vs a higher level of comp, which should really be taken into account.
If your asking who's the stronger fighter or who has better footwork the answer would be Golovkin, but defensively Alvarez has him by a wide margin.

 

GGG uses his style of blocking and parrying punches to have a proper balance and position and time to land one of his own. There's no offense without defense and vice versa for him. For him in order to be effective in being aggressive he just can't always dodge and slip punches while trying to land bombs. This is a tactic. This is not a shortcoming.
