OR ... these MMA fighters hit so darn hard that nothing can withstand their strikes ... Perfect end to a troll thread ...
There's no proof of this. On the other hand, with all that glass shattering in fight after fight, there is plenty of evidence for poor mandibular strength in many of these MMA participants. Face it, glass jaws are the standard in MMA. And when they go up against BOXERS - people who actually can punch - their weak chins get annihilated! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUx9OE7DZAo
Another thing with MMA/UFC is that they constantly match up their best fighters and put them through wars. Take for example Rory Macdonald, he's 25 or something and went through a lot of wars already, his chin has likely deteriorated and he will be a shell of his former self by the time he's 30-something. They don't build up their talent properly. Back in Pride fighters used to fight 4 times a year, Cro Cop fought 8 times in 2004 I think, one of those fights being only a month after he was brutally KOd by Randleman.
Sylvia never really had a great chin in general though... Just prior to this Fedor dusted him off in under a minute(dropped him heavily and then submitted him) Of course even an old shot former heavyweight contender is going to be able to KO him with ease if he leaves his chin out there like that. Not sure what Sylvia was thinking throwing that stupid low kick and leaving himself open like that, he really embarrassed MMA that day(this is coming from a fan of both boxing and MMA)
Chuck Liddell is making his comeback after almost a decade out of the ring... Against a guy he conquered twice in Ortiz. Powers the last to go but Icemans chin was really bad towards the end of his career and it certainly hasn't gotten better with time. That said Ortiz isn't really iron chinned himself and powers the last to go so a Liddell KO wouldn't be the most shocking thing ever.
