I think you have a bad habit of fixating over amateur results, they DO matter but it's not as black and white as fighter A beat these guys in the amateurs so therefore fighter A beats them again in the pros, and goes on to have a better career than either.
Oner invested a lot of time and money into him..... Thought he had a gold mine, and maybe he did......... We'll never know how good Solis truly was because he never came close to reaching his ceiling. If I recall correctly after the Thompson rematch Oner pretty much said he'd set up a fight with any young prospect just looking to make a name for themselves, almost like he wanted to punish Solis for ****ing him over.
But it never happened.Kabayel was with Oner, now with Sauerlands,Tyron Sponge was with Oner, now with other company.Oner let others go too.His thought of promoting in US never happened. He canceled or someone else canceled the show week from happening.I read that he is done with boxing.
Yeah, now Avni Yildirim is all he has. I think he wanted to use Solis as some sort of gatekeeper to make some money over up coming prospects but he just has no interest in boxing anymore.
No one is waiting for this but Cornish will return to the ring tomorrow against Polish Kamil Sokolowski (1-4-1)
The image of Oner and Odlanier's faces at the end of the 2nd Thompson fight (where Solis gives up prematurely) is priceless. They hated each other at that moment. But in a twisted way they kinda deserved each other. Still, Solis' arc was tragic. An example of a emigree Cuban boxer getting chewed up and spit out by the feared world capitalist system without accumulating much to show for it.
