It was an entertaining fight and one that I posted a thread on several years ago. One of the main things I can remember observing was foreman's weight for this bout. He showed up at 238 lbs which was the lowest he had weighed at any point in his comeback. He looked a tad more trim and mobile as well ( albeit marginally. ) I'm not sure if it was due to diligent training, watching his diet or maybe he had just suffered a bout of the flu prior to the match. But whatever it was it was certainly unusual for him at that stage in his career. The fight was indeed interesting and Qawi gave a good account of himself. Sure it's easy to say that a washed up old light heavy gave big George a little trouble. But We shouldn't forget that Dwight was a tough guy with lots of world class experience and an eventual induction into the hall of fame. He might not have been the best opponent for foreman to be fighting but there were certainly far worse guys out there.

Foreman basically just walkled through Quawi.
Quawi was basically landing at will, but could not carry the weight and had stamina issues.

George's fouling also helped (the blatant pushing and that kidney punch). But, yeah, it was going to be very tough for a man in Qawi's condition to go the distance with any version of Foreman.

Agreed; Qawi is one of my all time favorite boxers. A joy watching him using timing and his awareness of distance to outland bigger, longer fighters. Big George was a bridge too far, but he acquitted himself pretty well, all things considered.

BTW, stumbled upon a most prophetic George Foreman quote a while back. From before his fight with Norton:

"When he gets in the ring, he ain't gonna have time to think... Wherever he goes, there's gonna be George Foreman, right in his face. Somebody got to pay for all that nice weight I lost. I like to eat. I'm prettier slim but I'm happier fat. If I can ever afford it, I'm gonna eat all I want and I'm gonna be very fat. He gonna have to pay me for making me stay slim."

Foreman could have done without the last 10 or so of those pounds, at the very least.

That was in a 1974 "Sports Illustrated" in an article about the fight.

I can't understand why Foreman did n't keep at the weight he was in this one for the rest of his comeback. It really suited him.

I seem to remember reading that he felt weak at 235 and elected to carry more weight from then on.

In mrkoolkevin's clips George is thin enough in the body and face to sort of look like a combination of 70's & 90's Foremen.

    Thanks for the clip.

I remember standing in the arena before thinking the comeback was getting real. This fight added legitimacy though in reality Qawi was not in good shape
