There's a Kiwi named Josh Nyika set to compete in the welterweight prelims on Sunday, assuming they're brothers?

But David is pretty light on his feet, is very elusive, has good footwork and he can switch stances. His progress will be interesting.

David Nyika really is a bit of a late bloomer physically, that might sound a bit stupid because he is still only 20 (nearly 21) but 2 years ago he weighed a mere 75kgs.

He has only been fighting in the 91kg division for 12 months (81-91 is a big jump), I hope to see a good improvement against the Uzbek, but who knows really.

David should be more comfortable at the weight now, he has the speed and skill (good length and reach as well), but he sometimes gets too tricky for his own good and he doesn't have big power.

I never saw the first fight between the two, but it sounds like Dave got outworked and he thought that cleaner punches would beat the Uzbeks volume. I expect he doesn't get outworked this time.

he wouldnt want to get beat this time because he has no chance of qualifying if he loses here, the world qualification tournament will be too tough

2020 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him IMO, that's if he wants to be a pro heavyweight any way. He's not even close to being ready for the big guys. He would only be 25ish then any way.

It really is bad luck for Dave, but by no means impossible. The Uzbek is the no 1 seed in Asia.

Why does the Aussie get a bye and then a decent 2nd round draw lol.

Ah well hope he cracks it, but it's kind of bad luck for the Uzbek as well

Sound's like Nyika didn't look great against ALMATBOULI. He said he had a poor first round but got stronger as the fight went on.

I am a big Nyika fan but I don't think he will beat the Uzbek. Nyika hasn't been able to train hard and get hard fights in because he has been suffering from a hand injury since the beginning of the year (link below). I hope he does crack it but it doesn't look good for him.

About time the Aussies and New Zealand had to qualify through Asia, no easy road this time .
