Was Marciano REALLY superior to Frazier?

I've got a lot of time for both fighters and find it hard to pick a winner. The more I see of Marciano the better he gets. If he was as bad as some make out how come he always made the other guy fight his fight?

It should have been relatively easy to keep a guy with a lightweight's reach at bay, but who did it?

Similarly Frazier succeeded with pressure, punch output and sheer will to win; of course he had the equalizer, too.

I often wonder how the fight would pan out; who is the aggressor, for instance? Would Frazier's offense be as effective against a short fighter?

I tend to favour Marciano's attributes, but who's to say Joe would not have decimated Rocky's opposition?

I think Frazier may of been nullified just aswell by the craftier fighters like Charles, Moore. There's something about 1 hand fighters that these guys would live to face. Although with fraziers stamina and strength he would still likely win.
I think fraziers offence would still work against a short fighter but his defence wouldn't look as handy.

Half of Joe's first 18 stoppages were due to his right hand. This, according to Yank Durham.

Was he really a one-handed fighter?

When did those crafty fighters nullify anyone as explosive as Frazier? They've become folklorish trickster figures in this forum.

Untrue. Find nine bouts in Joes career where he stopped opponents with right hands. I dare you. There is no information I have found that Joe ever knocked any opponent down with a right hand let alone stop him. If you knew the history, and you don't, Joe did not develop any sort of a right hand until very late in his career. Even at that time it was an inferior weapon.

I think Marciano and Frazier are very different fighters stylistically despite some obvious similarities.
In terms of ability and prowess they are close, imo.
    Close to the top too.
I hesistate to put one over the other.

I got Frazier in this. Much better hand speed. And much more accurate. Marciano, had trouble against smaller older men. He never faced up against the likes of Smokin' Joe.

No, my reasoning is that both have 3 top quality victories.

People can debate about which victories are better all they want.

There's absolutely no scenario in which a heavyweight win over Ezzard Charles compares to one over 1971 Muhammad Ali. It's not something reasonable people can debate.

Then find an unreasonable person to debate it with.

charles and moore would not last 3 rounds with joe frazier, he was bigger, faster and stronger than marciano and did cut the ring much better

no, bob foster was the type of size that rocky fought, and frazier showed that could do with guys in the 180-190 pounds range

I don't even know any unreasonable people who would make such a clearly spurious argument.
