Catchweights have been in boxing since it began. Me personally have no problems but only if it suits both fighters. Not trying to get a fighter who has never fought 5lbs below his fighting weight. The thing with the Canelo weight it's not even like he wants it at 157/158, it's 155 ffs.
The rules are a little iffy. Cotto "forced" the 155 catchweight on Canelo and they sanctioned the fight. And good point about GGG owning the other belts but based on what he's said, he wants to collect this one as well so he might have to play by Canelo's stipulations depending on how bad he wants the WBC title.
You can argue the same about GGG, it's like he will not even contemplate the fight below 160. I'm being optimistic and feel that Canelo will offer 155 and GGG will counter 157/8.
He has just pointed out the obvious. This 155 thing is nonsense and just a way of gaining a weight advantage over his opponents cuz he rehyrates so much. Its just GPB, Canelo himself and the fans dont touch this subject, their only response is about how GGG is an A side and GGG was willing to drop for Mayweather. Why should GGG drop to 155 to face a guy who is guna be bigger than he would be on fightnight even if he was allowed to weigh 160?
That was not a mandatory. The rules are not iffy. Canelo should, by the rules, be stripped if he refuses to fight at the division limit. It's perfectly clear.
Once again, the division's upper limit is 160 but Canelo does not need to come in at 160. The issue here is that Canelo should not be asking GGG to come in at 155 but I have not read anything in the rules and guidelines that clearly indicate that the Champion can not offer the mandatory the fight at a catchweight.
El Pollo Alvarez should lose the 160 lb. title. It the WBC going to make a new weight division? 155? Hagler never had to come down in weight.........................It's called the 160 lb. division for a reason.....................always has been 160 lbs. Golovkin would weigh-in at 159. Chicken Alvarez weighs more than Golovkin anyway................
Canelo hasn´t beat any elite fighter without having at least 10 pound weight advantage. Imagine the same situation in any other so called "champions". He is full of sh.. and he has earned his new nick name - El Pollo!!
At the time canelo fought floyd i honestly thought he was one of the most stand up not scared to fight anybody guy's we have seen for a while. My opinion of him based on all this has changed dramatically.
Fighting against Floyd is nothing to do with courage IMO. It´s about money. Fighting against GGG is about less money (good money in any case) and great deal of pain :yikes
Problem solved. Although, if we are talking about fight night weight, Golovkin comes under 170 and Canelo over 170. The weight difference is there but other way around. Seems relatively fair to me.
