Do you think Gerald Mcclellan would've became an Atg?

I personally feel he's overrated as is.

I don't think so. The wheels were already starting to come off -too much hard sparring, too much damage taken in Jackson 1, personal life becoming more and more volatile...it was bound to come down sooner rather than later, even if he'd beaten Nigel.

Concur. More damage from Benn....assuming not the massive damaage. McClellan was not going to stay at the top for long.

Have to think that with a competent referee he probably stops Benn in a round. Beyond that, who knows. Still by far the biggest punching 160 pounder I've seen fight live.

his career would have been very short, his style relies too much on absorbing way too much punishment.

I am not sure he gets to ATG in a short time span.

Sure, he got a raw deal from the ref, but Benn came back and kicked the shkt outta him. ATG? The proof is in the pudding.

Agree with the poster who said the wheels were starting to come off a bit prior to the Benn fight. But will say this to in referenced to the poster who saw him live, it appeared that McClellan carried real fight changing power...and Benn had to climb back into pure life changing hell to beat him. I think that Gerald carried the type of power to knock off some of the established status quo...not saying he would...just saying that type of power is a wildcard in any fight.
People tend to not dwell on the Benn/McClellan fight much because of the outcome...and perhaps rightly so. But that fight reached a savage intensity that even alot of great champions would not have ventured into, and were taken out, or held back from winning by much less...That night Benn and McClellan were true forces to be reckoned with...that's my take.

That fight was more a Roman Gladiator fight to the death. And then Don King post-fight said McClellan had "quit like a dog" as they took McClellan to the hospital where he permanently entered a world of darkness forever.

:good Good post. I like gman but if you look at his record, he didn't really beat anyone except for Jackson who he had a size advantage over. He had a few losses when he stepped up comp before that too.
Michael Nunn was probably a better fighter.

    There's no probably about it.

Prime Nunn was a level above McCllelan.
