the reason the fight went on to long, after the match ref was very apologetic to Blackwell before he got carried off and his corner egged on by Fury, BJS and Hennessey did not even consider pulling their man out. It was clear after 5 rounds he was out gunned and outclassed and was extremely one sided fight. Heard comments like the ref would be slated for stopping it to early, IMO I would rather a fight was stopped a round early than a round to late. If he was fighting any other fighter than CEJ I think it would have been stopped or his corner thrown the towel in a round or 2 earlier.
Maybe, but when the doctor looked at Nicks eye the crowd were booing. When they heard the news that he is worse for wears they say that the fight should have been stopped earlier. His corner should ultimately be responsible, they know there man better than anyone.
Agreed but I think they were caught up in it as well, he was not responding to the instructions well after 5/6 rounds just grunting back. The crowd booing is irrelevant the corner and the ref are there to protect the fighters and I think the have both failed in their duty of care to Blackwell this evening.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it. Personally I wouldn't of complained if it was stopped a round or two earlier but when did injury occur? It could well have happened in the early rounds when Jr was fresh, sharp and probably punching his hardest, we just don't know. Blackwell was the champion, was never dropped, never seriously wobbled and has a reputation for being as tough as they come so I can understand to a point why it wasn't stopped. But I do think it is very unfair to start blaming individuals. Events like tonight should be a reminder to some of the people who come on here and call fighters "cowards" and "bums" that these men risk everything every time they step in the ring and we should give every single fighter regardless of levels and records our respect.
Can you honestly say it was a competitive fight ? It was a one sided beatdown and was uncomfortable viewing at times hindsight is a wonderful thing but me and the people I was watching the fight with expected the ref to stop the fight several times. A man being regarded as tough should not come into the equation the ref and his corner failed to protect their fighter IMO
I don't think Saunders/Fury/Hennessy/Lockett gave a toss deep down about Nick Blackwell the human person, they just wanted to see Eubank Jr beaten... probably the ref too. Like lamb to the slaughter.
Everyone is an expert in hindsight. At no point when Eubank was teeing off on him dos he look hurt or wobbled so why stop it? He was also taking a lot on the gloves and arms as he covered up.
Watch the fight back he was taking as many in the face and head as he was blocking. It was not a fair contest and he should have been pulled out.
It was a beating. If anyone other than someone called "Eubank" had administered it, I think agreement would be unanimous. Sure, a number of solid punches also hit Blackwells gloves and arms as he kept a nice, tight guard.... But many big shots smashed home at high speed. Those uppercuts are something else. I think it is worse for his opponents that Eubank doesn't seem to have KO power. It leads to rounds of concussive punches hitting home and heads snapping around.
It's a professional combat sport (it's supposed to be brutally violent) It was the champion defending a title The champion was never badly hurt No, the fight shouldn't have been stopped any earlier. I woudn't complain if the corner pulled their man out a bit earlier, but there was no need for a referee stoppage. If anyone wants a "safer" "less violent" version of boxing then there is already the amateurs.
The last round Lockett was giving Blackwell instructions, the fighter had, had enough. It was that one sided in the last 2 rounds that Eubank was landing his single jabs and swaying back from the counter, he wasn't getting away with it earlier. I think I gave Blackwell a possible share of one round. Eubank was taking out his venom meant for Billy Joe Scrote on poor Blackwell who doesn't know what head movement is.
