Kell's got a lot of stick for the lack of 'Big Fights' but is it really fair

A lot of people making out like he's avoiding big names but from what I can see is that he genuinely (and his promoter) want them.

He's not being protected as some are making out.

He's been stabbed, injured and forced to fight lesser opponents but thats the IBFs fault not his. He would have been stripped if he didn't face Bizier

Eddies right he has to keep hold of the belt

The problem is that all of his prospective opponents (apart from Khan) are in the US. That means he has to travel or Hearn needs to pay top dollar to bring those opponents over here. The latter won't happen without PPV (so Hearn keeps telling us) so he may need to travel.

The IBF mandatory system hasn't been exactly kind to him but he needs to make his mind up on where he wants to be based etc. I like the Thurman fight for Kell.

I think he has always had it hard, the thing is he really is a special fighter. Even if we go back to his domestic days people said he never beat anyone and he beat Euro/Fringe world class fighters like Mathew Hatton (who having been in with both said Kell was harder than Canelo) and Jennings. These two guys were beyond British level and were not world title fights or even eliminator and he still fought them, I believe he has genuinely always wanted to fight the best and beat them. Beating Porter in the US is an outstanding win it really is. Yes his CV could be stronger but it ain't as bad as some make out.

Yes it is fair, his last three opponents are all C-level, and nowhere near what a world title holder should be facing.

I'm concerned Brook has been calling out Khan and ONLY chasing that fight, if I was him, I'd forget Khan, and build up your own stock.
He could have given Shawn Porter that rematch to settle the score, he could have called out Thurman, Bradley, Pac man, Garcia, Jessie Vargas, L Peterson etc.

His defences are down to a joke sanctioning body, a promoter who wants to protect his investment and Kel not making the right noises and chasing the big fights like he should.

Khan made the mistake of going after Floyd, Kel made the mistake of waiting around for Khan, if a fighter is ducking you he WILL continue to duck you, but in the meantime get on with your job and keep winning big fights.

I have to give Brook stick, how can I come on here and give Khan stick (I have in the past) for what I considered poor opponents and give Brook a pass regardless of circumstance?

I have to be fair and consistent.

The IBF are a joke, now I understand why Joshua and Hearn have jumped in at world title level quicker than I thought they would, if these are the mandatories they serve up Joshua only has to beat Martin and ge can be a champion for a decade

Of course he wants big fights but he also wants big money.
To get these people in the ring he may have to take short money, get the win to generate some real stateside interest in his career.

I really don't understand why so many people give Brook grief, it's not his fault the IBF rankings are such a joke. What do people expect Brook to do? Ignore his mandatories & vacate the belt? Then how the hell do you expect him to land a big name without it when most people at 147 will avoid Brook if they can.

The good news for Brook is he doesn't have to face another lame **** mando for 12 months giving him time to set up a big name opponent.

It is fair in my opinion...it seems he's been banging on about getting big fights for the past 5 years, well before he won the IBF belt. Even after winning it, he's still talked about "big fights" like its some heroic objective...you're a world champion - you should be having big fights!

Yet whilst harping on about Marquez, Rios now it's Bradley/GarciaThurman he's fought Frankie Gavin. Obviously Bizier and Dan were mandatories so you can't really hold those against him.

The Gavin fight was clearly just a convenient option for Hearn to throw at Brook. Brook needs to start demanding more from Hearn as his promoter.

I am a big Kell Brook fan he is not avoiding anyone my problem is with Eddie Hearn he moans about the mandoraties but Matchroom and the fighters choose that path. Eddie now needs to back his man and pay money to bring a big name over. Something he doesn't like to do hence fighters travelling to the US recently and fighting. Degale, Brook.

Eddie has PPV money and he said countless times Kell is number 1 Welterweight now is the time to prove it. Kell needs to be in a mega fight this year and Matchroom need to deliver it no ifs or buts you have the names make the call.

I would like Garcia in a unification. But New York Cotto I would take that

    Yes it is fair.

He has been with Hearn long enough now to have landed at least three big fights, and he is also old enough to know better and to think for himself.

    1) Beating that bloke last night and then saying that it makes you the best in the division tells you all you need to know about his mentality.

    2) He must have clued onto the fact that nobody is coming to him or needs him, so why not try and just go to the states and fight there full time?

    3) He's got no interest in fighting a dangerous mandatory in Chaves, but you give him a bloke like last night and he'll never be injured.

    4) Surely he realises that the Khan fight just isn't happening? After Canelo, should he win, Khan will sit it out for a fight with Manny or Floyd. Kell will probably do the same but for Amir!

    5) ALL WE KEEP HEARING from Hearn is "huge fight next, big big fight next" and what do we get? Kell vs a mandatory on PPV?:lol::lol::lol:

He won this title f*cking two years ago now and it's turned him into an even bigger joke. I mean the likes of BERTO are getting bandied around now. Why?

    Manny
    Bradley
    Thurman

    Fight them instead.

It'll be a fight against another weak champ like Vargas, then it'll be "we're the kings of the division" and more pointless mandatories.

I'm sorry, but you just CANNOT keep giving the benefit of the doubt to a VETERAN who is in his borderline 30 years old, had nearly 40 fights and has been a pro for 12 years!

Kell is full of sh*t and his promoter is full of sh*t as well.

Just the idiots on here that keep backing him.

    Biezer
    Gavin
    Dan

That's who he's faced in TWO YEARS in the most talent packed division in Boxing!

Kell is not fighting a top 5 guy anytime soon.

It was a massive gamble taking him abroad the first time, they s****ed it then! Add to that a business model built on domestic fights that his promoter swears by, and a fascination with an asian lad a couple of miles away who doesn't want to know him = cr*p fights from this lot for the rest of his career.

Kell can't and has no intention of landing a big fight with the belt.

He'd be better off without it.

He's got more chance of getting a big name with a belt than without it, who realistically do you think would want to fight Brook without the chance of gaining a world title?

We know Kells name doesn't carry much weight in the states, so without a title it's a hard sell.

It's a VERY hard sell WITH a title. Even harder, IMO.
