Was Marciano REALLY superior to Frazier?

First find nine fighters Frazier koed with right hands. Find nine he knocked down. You won't find them.

Secondly no one close to the game during Fraziers career believes he had a decent right hand. Frazier not having a decent right hand (in boxing terminology "not having a right hand") was boxing fact by anyone who was anyone in those days. So if you want to believe in fiction that is up to you. Don't call it fact and don't call it boxing history.

Hes hurt people with his right, but nothing close to the power of his left. I've never seen him knock someone down or out with it.

    Fraziers Record: 32-4 (27 KO)
    Marcianos Record: 49-0 (43 KO)

Frazier has no fights on film where he knocked someone out cold.
Marciano knocked out Walcott and Layne cold.

    Every Marciano punch was deadly.
Frazier had a special left hook, everything else was pretty good.

    Marciano has more ATG wins.
    Marciano has more ATG KOs.
    Marciano never lost.

Muhammad Ali, who sparred with Marciano, and fought Frazier, said Marciano was better.

For all these reasons and more, I choose Rocky.

Fraziers hook was quick and powerful but lacked the real ko power of Louis, Dempsey and Marciano. Fraziers wins generally came by beating down and wearing out his opposition over rounds.

I am merely recounting what Yank Durham said. And a funny thing, it is repeated in this Mathis rendition here at the 4:00 mark...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukYPc5sV_Fk

To deny that Frazier had a very useful right hand just displays a lack of knowledge of the fighter. Obviously, he had a Hall of Fame left hook, but his right was an integral part of the equation. He had a bruising right hand to the body and slick right uppercut. He had to rely a lot on his right hand in the Oly final when his left thumb was broken.

From Monte Cox..."Joe Frazier was a better two-handed fighter than he has been given credit for. Although he didn't have a very good conventional straight right hand to the head, his right hand to the body was dynamite."

Luis Monda, trainer at Johnny Tocca's... "Frazier had an underrated right hand, and he could throw it true."

"Frazier has one punch, the hook which he drills with either hand. He played congo drums on Conners' tummy in the early going, coming from right and left field to make Marion wince." - Gerry Finn

In Frazier's stoppage of Doug Jones, the turning points was "a terrific right hand punch thrown by Frazier closed Jones' right eye completely." (UPI)

In Frazier's stoppage of Mathis, his right to the body "paralyzed Mathis. He stood there, the eyes bulging, the gap-toothed jaw slack."

Against Ramos, Joe uses his right uppercut to begin the end. You can watch it on tape. The AP saw it as "A right uppercut to the chin started the barrage..."

Against Doyle, Frazier "sent him across the ring with a right hand punch." "drove him across the ring with rights and lefts" to end the fight.

Find the bouts where Frazier ended the fight with right hands. Find opponents he knocked down with right hands. Again you won't find any. There is nothing I can think of as more of a revisionist false statement that Frazier had a good right hand (in boxing terminology "Frazier had a right hand"). He was a left hooker with very poor coordination between his left and right fists. No ability because of this to use both hands in combination with one another aside from when his head was on his opponents chest. This was all very well known.

I think you're overrating Marciano's "deadly" punch. Lots of fighters lasted many rounds with him, including several not known for their durability.

I'd pick Frazier to beat all of Marciano's opponents. Could Marciano beat all of Frazier's opponents? The two men who beat Frazier, Ali and Foreman, would also beat Marciano. Frazier beating Ali trumps any win Marciano had. Could Marciano match Frazier's win over Ali? I doubt it.

Two hands vs. one; Marciano was the better fighter. That DOES NOT mean he would have beaten Frazier though...20 lbs.

Fraziers win against Ali trumps any fight in heavyweight history apart from maybe Schmelings win against Joe Louis but we not saying Frazier and Schmeling rate 3rd and 4th in the heavyweight rankings are we??

Frazier was what I refer to as a build up fighter it would be tap, tap, tap, BOOM! Tap, tap, tap, BOOM - seemed like he literally had to build up to his big shot and it looked really predictable to me you could literally feel him build up for the big 4th punch every time - I'm sure it wasn't that easy there but he looked very predictable to me and very easy to time - and every was built around the left hook- his right looked more like he just used it to try and get people in position for his left hook - wouldn't have been Frazier if he suddenly decided to gear everything around his right hand (imagine how wierd that would've looked!? ) just wasn't his way - it was left hook or nothing
