How did the old, flabby ****ell survive these flush, bone-crunching power punches by one of the hardest hitting men in the history of the heavyweight division? Took the one fully-leveraged punch on his extended chin and not only didn't fall but even bounced away on firm legs afterwards!

For contrast, here's a younger, more fit ****ell against a middleweight, 3 years earlier:

That was ****ell's best performance in a fight and he was still brutally knocked the hell out. None of these, of course you've mentioned.

Huh? He didn't survive. It was stopped in the 9th.

Are you like...trying to expose Marciano for not having power?

Not trying to expose anything...I was just amazed and confused. It's like an optical illusion or something.

Must have been! Makes you wonder-- would lesser fighters like Tua and mentally weaker fighters like Tyson have wilted against the "Marciano" version of ****ell and failed to stop him within 9 rounds? :think

The fact that lasting 9 rounds arguably merits a thread is a pretty good testament to his power.

Interesting point. Don could potentially have worn them out and stopped them late?

Maybe Tyson is exposed for his lack of stamina, mental strentgh, & will to win and runs out of steam when ****ell takes him into deep waters? Maybe he gets frazzled when he seems ****ell taking his punches so well, and ends up fouling ****ell and getting himself dq'd?

Tua was never stopped in his career or even dropped once in his prime, including in fights against the likes of Ike and Lennox, so it seems more likely that ****ell uses his superior skills & smarts to outbox him, no?

He was sparked in the amateurs with one punch, though.

I think it's pretty obvious that ****ell has the tools to take Tyson and should be favored to do do.

What contemporary fighter would get criticised for dominating the #2 ranked contender, and stopping him in the 9th round?

It would be seen as a solid result even for somebody like Kovalev.

This is an illustration of the high standard that legends of the past are held up to.
