Damn he makes the YG look small. But just looking for bigger guys to beat Ward I'm not sure if it will matter much.

No more Kool Aid very risky to put your marbles with a guy with 17 fights against an elite fighter. Lesson learned.

And here's the guy I really want Ward to face, bear witness the brilliance of Gvozdyk.:deal

The guy he's beating down is a 6'5ish HW who has a win over Szpilka in the ams, this is with light gloves on and he pulverizes him, look at the astonishing footwork, look at the immaculate defense, look at the blistering hand speed, look at the pinpoint accuracy, look at the punch selection, look at his inside game, look at the angles, look at the piston like jab, look at the feints, all a work of art. He gets more and more dominant as the match goes on.

The odd thing about Slava is that he should be fighting right now especially considering he's still just a prospect. If he fights Ward he will be 6-7 months inactive (depending if Ward fights in June or July). Basically he will just be another piece of meat for Ward to beat up. Yeah he's 6'3, about tall as Chad Dawson, but Slava is no Chad Dawson.

Ward isn't fighting in June, please. :rofl He will come back in October against another LHW and then make the Kovalev fight about this time next year. Maybe later. Many fighters nowadays think a loss is a death sentence. I hope Ward doesn't have that in mind.

From what I heard there is a stipulation in the contract that Ward can't fight anyone else other than Kovalev after June, I don't know if that's true. A fight in June I think is way too early for Ward to have another match, late July would be perfect.

The plan for Ward is to fight in March, than July, and than Kovalev in November. But that's IF Ward feels like he is ready and Ward is not violating the contract that he signed.

Good to see you back Rummy.

It was a great display from Ward, now him vs Kovalev looks much more of an even fight (since we haven't seen a performance like that from Ward in a long time :yep) than it did before.

Both sides will keep claiming their fighter is easily gonna win but I don't see a heavy favourite here.

Nice vid Rummy, great point on Ward's jab, it was great, he'd catch Barrera's and come back with his own time and time again, keeping his head off center. Also good to highlight the times he was a bit inaccurate. I think Ward could have gone for the stoppage but was focused on shaking the rust off, practicing his timing, and walking Barrera into shots instead of pressing like they might have expected.

You scored the fight correctly, 119-107, 12 round shutout for Ward. I am glad to see that, same as my score. Only difference is that I wasn't surprised to see this and predicted this. Ward, despite some ring rust looked like himself a year ago. Ward has the potential of shutting out Kovalev as well who, dare I say it, looks on the slow side. I call that my reality reality (like the Donald Rumsfield's "unknown unknowns) or real reality assessment. If people want to make believe Kovalev has a good chance then so be it. I want Ward to get the shine that he deserves. His ring IQ and boxing knowledge is just too much. Kovalev has a great trainer too and claims he knows Ward's weaknesses but one thing that can be counted on is that Ward will find Kovalev's weakenesses.

Ward looked really sharp and I thought for the most part it was a decent enough fight to watch. Barrera perhaps just exposed at that level but it's still a good win in my book. The commentary team were talking about his 'power' during the knockdown but that was more landing an accurate shot that Barrera didn't see coming

Ward did better as my earlier prediction indicated 9 to 3 / 8 to 4-ish, and he even scored a knockdown early on.
I had it 10-2 with KD and point deduction, making it 117-109 on my card. And one of those might have been a pity round, in which I was giving a close one to Barrera just because.

So after this I changed my mind about Ward vs Stevenson, which I believed was close to 50/50 with the slight edge to the Canadian pimp because of his ability to end things with a single left hand.
Now I favor Ward by UD and think it's about a 70/30 kinda fight.

Still Kovalev is on another level. Now just imagine him in there with Barerra last Saturday. What would you expect to have happened?
In my eyes kovalev would have slapped him around like a ragdoll with his balance issues knowing that Kova hits very hard and from weird angles when he needs to.
I really believe Barrera wouldn't have seen the second half of the fight.

Then there's Beterbiev, who maybe might be a bit overrated, but is such an immensly bad style matchup for Ward that I can't do anything as favor him.

For the rest I expect Ward to beat 'm all. Some easier than others of course.
I rate him the #3 LHW as of now head to head.
