So I came across this interview he gave in Kazakhstan. It was translated from Russian. I went on the website and translated the comments and the general consensus is that GGG is a jerk and arrogant.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/46fm79/gennady_golovkin_as_youve_never_probably_seen_him/

    Some choice excerpts:

Interviewer: On a number of occasions you’ve voiced your goal for the year: to fight Saul Alvarez. We’d like to discuss this further, particularly the claims that he’s ducking you, and that his team is making all kinds of excuses, demanding extravagant concessions. What are you willing to give up to have this fight? Catch weight? Purse? Location? Are you willing to fight him in Mexico? How long will you keep waiting if Alvarez continues to duck you?

GGG: I don’t think those are his terms, or his thoughts for that matter. These are things his management and promotion team throw out there. It’s how they PR their fighter, and it’s how they PR their company. It’s how they want to show people how cool they are. If this fight happens, and this fight will happen! This is a PR move, hell, they can even say that I’ll fight him for free, it’s all just PR.

Interviewer: So your position in this situation is?

GGG: In the affirmative. I will box. If they truly want to box, we will box, because I am ready.

Interviewer: Are you willing to drop down to 155?

GGG:What weight are you talking about?

Interviewer: The weight of 155 pounds, which Saul’s team says are one of the conditions of them fighting you.

GGG: The information at your disposal is nothing but drama, PR bull**** put on by his promoters.

Interviewer: So you’re saying the fight will only happen at 160 pounds?

    GGG: Yes. There are rules.

My thoughts: This guy has his head so far up his ass. He obviously doesn't understand the business aspect of boxing or he doesn't care too. Canelo has been screaming 155 or no fight for months and yet he insists its the PR from his promoter. This right here tells us that the fight wont happen at a CW.

Here's an example from the comments section (google translated)

"If the information is credible , reliable and she flew off his mask SPECIFICALLY ! And this information is necessary to send out so that every citizen of Kazakhstan know how it behaves in America and England "

"With our journalists is not exactly a good-natured he communicates . Some questions do not respond to this topic . You agree people ? incomprehensible interview"

"Most do not understand anything ! Fair. Mixed feelings in me. Can sucks met him here? Like the questions were clear and understandable answers but what is not clear and bold . Or our champion has decided to change the image ?!"

If I'm not mistaken eventually Canelo will run out of voluntary defenses and will have to fight GGG at 160 or vacate.

So when he says "those are the rules" I think he is referring to Canelo will have to fight or vacate.

I think he's rather soft about the situation he's in for quite some time now.
I'd have been furious and would straight up called all these guys blatant duckers like they are. Hijacking the belt so it can't be won by true middleweights anymore.

And Canelo fans are hiding behind business aspect.

Can you imagine that a guys like Jones and Hopkins could never even win the Middleweight belt because some MOTHERF__KER kept it hostage at 155lbs?!

How bad of a PR move will it be if Canelo vacates the lineal title to avoid Golovkin?

It would, but all recent interviews show he's planning to or at least has some sneaky deal with the WBC so he doesn't have to vacate or gets some special belt.

Based on what you posted, nothing seemed "jerky" or arrogant to me.

Ggg needs to snap back to reality

95k means they're fighting at 155 unless he wants to keep fight wades and monroes for peanuts

What if he has to fight GGG or vacate? And what if GGG takes them to court to sue. I'm sure Donald Trump will be all over this too. He'd tell him to sue as he should if Canelo somehow keeps his title without fighting GGG at 160.

Canelo should vacate if ggg doesn't come to his senses

Ggg will bend over once he realizes he'll never be on ppt again

Yep, Canelo's leverage is to threaten to vacate.

As a boxing fan I think the 155 demand is real lame. There's already 17 weight classes and CANELO just made his 18th because he's a draw. Floyd fought the bigger cotto at 154 despite being the clear a side.

However, money talks and in this situation the money a side is being a real diva. GGG needs to take away his entitlement by putting a beating on canelo. 155 is absurd. Oscar drained Bhop to 157.5. GGG should offer the same. If canelo rejects 157.5 then he looks terrible. By offer 157.5 GGG can at least claim he tried to make the fight but Canela turned in Down over 2 pounds

I'm tired of both of these idiots.

Canelo: "we're comfortable at 155"...ok, good for you but 155lbs is in the mw division so go ahead and weigh what you're comfy at. Just don't try and pretend it isn't total bull that you make your opponent fight there too.

GGG: for Canelo, no catchweight...but Ward must be at 164. Or my personal favorite is the "no one will fight us, they're all scared".. So instead of going up (like every other fighter who had this issue) we'll just keep going lower on the 160 opponent scale until someone bites.

And yes, in regards to the op, I think Golovkin is a bit arrogant.

He's referring to the WBC rule that states that a Champion cannot force a mandatory to fight at a catchweight.
