Overrated Euro champions? Which one of these fighters is in the IBHOF? Maske, Michaelczewski, Ottke, Sturm, Schultz, Rocciciani. Take a guess.

    Who's overrated?

I don't respect or care about the IBHOF, Arturo Gatti is in it.

Exactly. Gatti is in it, and guys like Chris Eubank or Sven Ottke are not. So the idea of "Euro bums being overrated" is clearly idiotic.

You aren't making much sense. I said the sentiment that these 3 don't have any respect in America and that's absolutely true. I also don't respect the IBHOF at all, but I would respect a real boxing HOF organization that isn't corrupt. Not my fault you have a problem with America as the epicenter of boxing.

Also this is a hint of why not much respect is given to these Euro champions that didn't come to America. Quote is from Chris Eubank Sr.

Agreed, I don't think highly of Ottke, but Sturm overall was a solid guy, and Darius was 1a or 1b of the LHW division. I personally believe Roy would've beat him, but Darius beat many of the same guys Roy did

As much as I hate Ottke and his horrible style I have to admit that he defended his title countless times and retired undefeated.Daruis' opposition was quite poor in comparison with Ottke's one.Besides Ottke beat the Pole at the amateurs.
On top of that all Ottke beat his opponents fair and square(apart from the Reid fight of course).Sure,he had some close fights, too.
And lets be fair and give honour where honour is due:Ottke was a runner who could run circles around you.Probably the fastest sprinter boxiing has ever seen.
I got bored silly watching him fight in a ring, but as much as I hated him and complained about him there was no one who really beat him(yep! I also scored that infamous fight with Reid for the Brit).
It doesnt really matter if you look like a potential all time great and invincible you first have to beat a guy like Ottke in order to prove that you are really great.I loved Calzaghe whe he was active.I would have always favoured him over Ottke but their fight never came off(nor Darius vs Roy Jones).
Calzaghe looked so much better and far more convincing in his fights that did Ottke in his.Nevertheless,a victory would not have been a sure bet for Joe as styles make fights and Ottke's style was a victorious one( as much as you hate it).
Sturm?? Pah! He shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence with Ottke.

Ottke for me is the worst. Light punching home town hero if he was upright at the finish he was certain to win .that's if the ref hadn't disqualified the other bloke for trying to punch oatcake.total joke .

I don't have a problem with the USA at all. I have a problem with some forum clowns here who argue anyone who is NOT American (or Mexican) is a bum by default. A passport doesn't define your boxing skills. The level of US education is so awful that the average American highschool kid can't find a random European country on a map. No I am not making this up, this is one of the appalling results of the PISA studies.

Unfortunately, American lack of education about life outside of North America affects their boxing knowledge as well.

It's actually worse, an average college student can't find most States on the map let alone foreign countries.

Maybe that's a problem in back country Tennessee, but don't speak for the rest of the country. I've been around the world before, during, and after wartime. Go live in England and see how much they respect you and I know you are white but you will see the difference in a few weeks. Compare that to the immigrant English that live in the United States on an expired work or tourist VISA, smoking meth in California alleys.

It is mostly a certain group of people involved in boxing that doesn't have much respect for Europeans. There might be a cultural element to that as well. Either way, I doubt that anyone in Europe is bothered with that.

That's not me, I can point out countries on a map. I am not poorly educated like a Trump voter.
Though I remember nobody had any respect for Calzaghe when Lacy went over there to fight. Conventional wisdom is that he stayed across the pond to duck. I have even read some chatter referencing his thoughts at the time. There was definitely that notion that Euro champs avoided America's best. There's been plenty of threads saying those American champions were overrated in response to this long standing notion. And this thread is a response to those threads for sure so I guess if the kitchen is hot, get out the kitchen.
