Kovalev doesn't fight on his toes, but vs Hopkins, he sure didn't just stumble forward in a straight line.
If some of you rewatch that fight, pay attention as to how Kovalev angles forward. He goes in on Hopkins and once close enough, changes the angle. That's something that Hopkins wasn't counting on Kovalev to do and it messed with his own gameplan.

If Kovalev respects his opponent, he's very capable changing that angle and at the same time be defensively alert that he feints his opponent before letting his own hands loose.
Kovalev is no Arthur Abraham, this guy can actually box at a high level.
