Radzhab Butaev who qualified for the 2016 oylmpics through the world series of boxing turned pro last friday with a 1 round ko victory. He was unfortunate that another russian also qualified for the olympics in his weight class and got the nob over him but he is one of the best amateurs in the world in his weight class and a great pro prospect considering his experience. he has recently turned 22 so he is still very young

Maxim Dadashev another russian boxer fighting out of oxnard will turn pro tomorrow night. Dadashev is a good amatuer but would only be 3rd choicefor the russians as he is behind the APB world champion Armen Zakaryan and amatuer world champion Vitaliy Dunaytsev. He is still a very good amateur however

i think this is a good thread for boxing, russians are finally going pro at a young age when they miss out on the olympics. i think the likes of sergey kovalev, povetkin etc have been the trail blazers and now the flood gates are starting to open

Nah! The flood gates are not starting to open. Not at all.
There is no pro fight infrastructure in Russia,no big tv money,no good local promoters, nothing. Just a few oligarchs who like boxing.
Good amateur fighters are a dime a dozen over there in Russia.Doesnt really matter whether a handful of them turn pro or not.It will not change anything in Russia.
The flood gates are still closed.A few Russians or other fighers from the former soviet union states who fight abroad wont change the game back home.#
Russia has more amateur fighers than all amateurs combined in the european countries.Where are they? Still back home.
Sure,Povetkin,GGG,Kovalev and some other boxers fight in the west or in Russia, but they are so few and not even the best out there. There ares so many talented fighters in the countries of the former soviet union.
    Capable managers,decent promoters,big capital,tv backing,tv money,and widespread popularity for the pro game........................just a dream!
I am from Belarus. There is no tv money for pro boxing,no tv backing,no capable managers, and certainly no decent promoters.Big capital-haha!
Popularity?? Give me break! Nobody in Belarus has ever heard the names of Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.

Mihail Dauhaliavets??? His roughouse style is made for the pros.
He always goes for the ko and truly knows how to fight dirty.
He is certainly one of the guys whose style is tailor made for the pros.He doesnt like tactical fights,he just enters the ring to take his opponent out of action by all means.
Sadly,he always loses almost all close fights as the amateur refs as well as the judges dont like his style. There are quite a few guys who beat him at the amteurs who wouldnt stand a chance against him in a 8 round fight at the pros under pro rules.A rough and rugged banger with an iron chin-made for the pros.

ya he has done well in the wsb too, but yes he does get outboxed, joe ward badly outboxed him twice in the last two major tournaments.

he should turn over, also the 56kg guy who has already qualifed for the olympics looks brilliant

A russian told me GGG and kovalev were not that special over there in their youth, other monsters just never turned pro and made it to the US. Makes you wonder.
