Who wins at 154 or 160 pounds and why? I pick Hearns by KO. But Hearns was stopped by Leonard, Hagler and Barkley you say? Sure, yes he was, but I don't think that matters as styles makes fights. First, Hearns was outboxing Leonard until he gassed and couldn't continue. Could Jones stay on the outside and not get completely outclassed far worse Leonard did? No he cannot. Would he able to wait until the 13th round to make his move? I doubt it. Second, Hagler bullrushed him. Marvin probably has the GOAT chin and he was absurdly physically strong. Hagler was special. Third, Barkley used a similar style to Hagler, but after the savage beatdown by Hagler I don't think anybody could possibly ever be the same either. Against Jones Jr. Tommy wins. He's too fast and skilled to succumb to the unorthodox Jones attack. Roy usually enjoyed a massive speed advantage over his opponents. And while he's faster than Tommy it wasn't by much at all. Tommy sits on the outside, picks his spots, Jones hits nothing, but air, and then Tommy brutally stops him. It would be like Barrera Hamed. Jones would get exposed by a well schooled boxer-puncher. Except this time Jones goes night night.
As great as hearns was he would get ko'd early. His chin wasnt great RJJ is the most gifted fighter to ever compete
Jones every time. Jones would also beat Leonard and Hagler. A prime Roy or even just a young Roy is the GOAT head to head.
Jones liked to fight off the back foot. He's not landing **** on Hearns fighting off his back foot. To best Hearns you rough him up.
Jones had the fastest feet and the fastest hands of anyone ever at 160.He would have no problem hitting him.Jones was also very skilled... just unorthidox
I was going to suggest a separate thread. :good You're doing Ray a huge disservice by saying Tommy was beating him until he gassed. That's not what happened. Ray changed tactics completely after being grilled by Dundee, and he then went out and fought him instead. Again, Roy would NEVER have tried to outbox him. He was too smart for that. As per the other thread, Roy had a motto which was: "You fight a boxer, and you box a fighter." Now there is no logical reason why Roy couldn't have fought Tommy in the way that Ray and Marvin did. You can't tell me that Roy couldn't have hit him flush, when they did. Hitting air all night? Roy was a bigger, more powerful version of Ray. Explain to us why Tommy couldn't brutally knock Ray out? Tommy was super fit, and he didn't burn himself out outboxing Ray in the first half of the fight. The reason he couldn't do it was because Ray fought him and hurt him. Go and watch Roy take out Thomas Tate with a single left hook from nowhere. You are massively under rating Roy here.
Ha! How did Marvin and Ray hit him? Tommy was too skilled to have let Roy hit him, yet he couldn't stop Ray and Marvin from doing it? Roy was bigger than they were. Roy was as fast as Ray, if not faster. Roy had genuine one punch knockout power in either hand. What you've wrote is simply illogical.
Roy didn't fight unless he had to. Why are you so convinced that Roy would have tried to have outboxed him? Did you not see the Hill and Griffin fights? Although I couldn't predict an exact outcome, there's one thing I can predict for sure: Roy wouldn't have sat back and tried to have outboxed him. Roy and Alton Merkerson would never have employed those tactics.
