I know Briggs is not relevant anymore. At least the bout would be entertaining and marketable (just think about the pressconfererences). Briggs has achieved some mainstream recognition with his nonsense. He also has power and coupled with haye's weak chin, there would at least be some excitement. That would have been a good fight for Haye at this point and a very winnable fight for him. Instead Haye chooses to fight this no namer.:bart There are a lot of things wrong with boxing today.
I love watching Haye fight, that said, I long ago go sick of waiting on him for anything, lol,,, there has always been a lot wrong with boxing. That don't stop great fights from coming around once in awhile.
Even if Briggs has become kind of a joke, there is a certain demand for Haye-Briggs. The same can't be said of Haye's current fight. I understand that Wlad did not fought Briggs. But come on, as a tune up for Haye , the fight is justifiable.
The problem with boxing is examplified by what is written above. Gjergjaj has done about as much as Briggs has lately, maybe more, and certainly more than Haye. Just because some fans might not have heard of him does not mean that he isn't a viable opponent, especially if Briggs is considered a viable opponent. However, because Briggs is a "name" and may cause a stir in the press by acting like an idiot pre-fight, fans want to see him instead of a new challenger. There are too many old fighters living of their past name and getting fights they don't really deserve when equally talented, lesser known fighters are waiting in the wings.
Why not? I've seen hordes of "always dangerous" Latvians and "teak tough" Ghanians get licensed, so why not Briggs who even at that age would still smash those busdrivers?
True. UK has a terrible history of importing glass chinned bums from Eastern Europe to build up British boxers. So why not Briggs?
Haye can't have much of a budget to spend on opponent for this fight. Doubt it would have been the last big payday briggs has been working for anyway.
