Joe Louis vs. Wladimir Klitschko.

I personally don't think the big/tall guys were as talented, skilled, mobile, well trained, strong, quick 50 to 100 years ago as they are today.

Call that what you will but I think there is TRUTH to it imo at least.

I am not talking about only the Klit brothers, hardly, I talk of Lewis as well as guys like Wilder, Bowe, Tucker and Fury etc, even guys like Ortiz are pretty big and pretty good when compared to the past history of boxing.

As far as comparing other weight classes of past to present I don't think this same comparison is valid. In that guys of past at similar weights imo were often BETTER than guys of present.

I think Slavic derailed this convo slightly by READING too much into the bigger weights and then simply applying it to all boxing weight classes. No offense Slavic just my opinion :good

 

so why in your belief is the ONE SINGLE weight class more talented skilled mobile than the past ones, but ALL THE OTHER WEIGHT CLASSES they aren't more talented skilled mobile?

his footwork in his time was considered to be decent, it was only in the decades to follow that it became apparent it was 1 of his few areas that was not always as outstanding as many that came later.

Possibly , but in Joe's time , Wlad wouldn't have a biased ref protect him and stop/start the action every time the opponent got into the range.

In a fight where the ref just stands there and lets the combatants go at it , i see Louis kracking his chin early.

your question to me had something to do with what I said about how Heavys today being bigger and more skilled on average then they were in past.
