They both hit hard. Both of them were more devatasting with combinations, than pure one-hit power punchers, but they both had ample power in single shots too. You do realize Buster Douglas wasn't even a massive puncher ? Frazier took far more punishment in Manila against Ali, and stayed on his feet and wanted to continue with his face busted up, FAR more punishment than Tyson could absorb against Douglas and against Holyfield. Beating Michael Spinks and Trevor Berbick and losing to Buster Douglas doesn't make you capable of beating any fighter either. Norton's style was completely different to Frazier's. It's already been explained, Tyson does not have these supposed advantages over Frazier. It's mostly make-believe. Tyson was stopped 5 times, and fouled himself out once in a fight he would have been KO'd in too. He was stopped or quit against Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, and Danny Williams and Kevin McBride. Frazier was stopped 3 times total, twice to Foreman, and once after the 14th round while he protesting to go on. Frazier was fighting at age 37 too, damaged and half-blind and 30 pounds overweight, so it's comparable. Tyson KO'd the same level of fighter who Frazier KO'd.
Frazier knocked HWs down with singular hooks. Neither of them were one-punch KO guys. Rarely did they win without landing an awful lot of accurate punches. Both of them swarmed with a lot of punches.
Just stop Tyson had Foreman power! Evander Holyfield said a 42 year old Foreman hit harder than Tyson. He said this from his observations facing them in the ring, not from the couch going toe to toe with a bowl of nachos.
While this may be true, Tyson still displayed greater knockout power in single punches than Frazier, against bigger heavyweights to boot. I don't feel like this is debatable at all. I don't know how big of a puncher Douglas was, but he was a 230 lb fighter who had a track record for knocking down other heavyweights with his jab alone. Either way, Tyson was NEVER destroyed in the manner that Frazier was against Foreman. And he took on punchers of a similar caliber. There were some differences, yes. But both guys were pressure fighters, who strictly came forward, and both guys got destroyed by the big punchers.
Again....Just the fact Tyson had an all time right hand makes him a superior puncher over Frazier. What are their respective career KO percentages? I've watched them both live....,punching power is not comparable. You could hear Tysons punches.....they were very heavy blows.
Punching power is not comparable? Frazier had a near prime Ali down and in serious trouble. Earnie Shavers hit a zombie Ali all night with his best right hands and barring a little wobble never had him close to being stopped. Frazier had more than enough power to seriously hurt Tyson make no mistake about that.
