6'1" with a 77" reach and we can assume he'd still be solid around 200-205 Lbs. He weighed over 190 for a few fights, it wouldn't be impossible for a world class athlete to gain a few Lbs. of muscle without sacrificing speed or stamina. Chris Byrd would be just a tad taller with a 3" shorter reach. He'd come in at least 5 Lbs. heavier. Both were quick and durable. Byrd was more elusive. Dempsey punched harder. Dempsey has a real chance here. Corrie Sanders is 3" taller but has the same reach. He'd come in about 20 Lbs. heavier. Both men are quick and powerful. Sanders is a southpaw. Dempsey seems more durable. Dempsey has a good chance at beating someone who stopped Wlad in less than 2. Brewster is 2" taller with the same reach and 25-30 Lbs. heavier. Demspey is the better overall fighter but Brewster is big, strong, and punches hard. He can also take a decent shot. Demspey is quicker and more active. Brewster's only chance is to land something big. Brewster went 1-1 (1) vs. Wlad. Sam Peter is much heavier with a similar height and reach. He's strong and punches hard but is not a great boxer. He gave Wlad hell in the first fight but was stopped in the rematch. Tough fight for Dempsey. He'd have a lot of man to deal with. Anything could happen. Bottom line, Dempsey does better thanany expect... but size is an issue.
On this uninformed subject thread pertaining to Jack Dempsey,by many he is on the level of a Butterbean at best. I'm outa here...
That's the thing. Dempsey at the absolute top of his game *could* likely beat just about anybody. It would not surprise me. What also would not surprise me is if he decided to brawl with a Sanders or a Brewster or a Purrity and got KTFO. He's basically fighting a string of guys better than Firpo every match. Tough ask even for a prime Dempsey. He'd be giving up a lot more weight than you think. Sanders was typically 225-230. That's in the region of 35-40 lb advantage over a 190lb Dempsey. With a mastodon like Pulev you're talking almost 60lb. These guys were not lumbering oafs. Pulev is seriously powerful and gave Wlad a good challenge in the strength department. Sanders has a lightning punch and can do combination punching with the best of them. Basically Dempsey would have to fight his best fight every night to have any chance of coming close to Wlad's record. And if we look at Dempsey's record, he was not that consistent a performer. The size and consistency of modern athletes will tell against a smaller "great" in the end.
Dempsey v the tomato cans Wlad has fought? Don't make me laugh. Most of those frauds Wlad fought get KO'd within 5 v Dempsey.
What a bunch of malarkey. Dempsey in his prime was "not consistent" you utter ? Pray tell me who Dempsey lost to in his prime ? Don't rush sir. Take your time. A year would do...
He's got a losing record against "Fat Boy" Willie Meehan. A guy with an 11% KO record, with 29 losses (7 by KO) and 38 draws. Yet the hardest puncher in history (allegedly) couldn't ko him in five tries where 7 others could? Dempsey's last loss to him was after something like 18 straight wins. If he wasn't prime then, he never was. Look I don't want to pee all over the resume of a fighter that I actually like. But reality is that if you contrast the resume of Wlad man for man, win for win, against that of Dempsey, Jack comes out wanting. It is what it is.
He really didn't. He was pushed around like a weakling. This is what the footage shows , so i can you conclude that you never seen the footage. Fury gave Wlad a good strength challenge . In fact he out muscled and out man'd him. Wlad wasn't able to push Fury back even one step. On the topic of records , give Jack a million pound , 2 month training camp and he'd smash all of Wlads opponents , minus Fury and maybe Brewster. Put Wlad through Jacks record of fighting every month of the year , sometimes even two times a month and he suffers the same loss count , if not more.
I disagree there, Dino. There are only a few guys on Dempsey's record that I think would give problems to Wlad. No chance in hell that he comes out with losses to guys like Meehan and Flynn.
I just can't envisage him losing to people like Sam Peter, Eddie Chambers ... So i see him doing pretty well, however this is comparison of how Jack does against Wlad's opponents is a bit of an insult to the latter's longevity
