can anyone give me infromation on chris eubank snr sky sports world tour in the 90s was it true he was to have 8 fights in a year and fight every 6weeks ????
Pretty much yes. To be honest the opponents were rather hit and miss- after the second Collins fight Sky dropped him and he fought in the Middle East until the Calzaghe fight.
Yes. He broke ground at the time by going over to Sky from free TV. He was to fight Amaral, Storey, Malinga in South Africa, Wharton, Nardiello in Feb '95 in Rome, Seiller in Mar '95 in Paris, Rocchigiani again in Berlin and Steve Collins in Boston.
I met Close when I was 15, just after the first Eubank fight. Despite being a Eubank fan I was very proud of my photo taken with the first guy to fight him and not lose. Still like that photo, even though my hair is appalling and I look like a 15yr old American nerd. Eubank fought **** in the rematch as well, really frustrating
Eubank didn't like a guy who didn't punch with him. Close threw light little shots at awkward moments and kept himself non-stationary while always close to Eubank (no pun).
Yeah I remember that. It seemed a bit gimmicky and the fights / opponents were not up to much. He then ran into Steve Collins.
Against Close, Eubank was that busy showing off he didn't listen to the official verdict. He was shocked to find it was a draw during the post-fight interview.:yep
8 fights in a year most have been offered big money I remember at the time hearing every6 weeks 8fights in a year Eubank most have been killing himself to make super middle weight but I'm sure baz Hearn was moling a fortune from the sky deal
£10,000,000 was the figure. At that time other than Bowe and Holyfield, Foreman, Lewis and Benn, nobody was making even a million DOLLARS.
Eubank fought some great fighters as a SMW Wharton Benn Malinga Thornton Rocchigiani Watson Close Jarvis Very impressive and in such quick succession
