He moved like a turtle but his handspeed was okay and it's not like he'd have to track Dempsey down. Granted, Jack did move well in Toledo. But he'll eventually have to come at him.
Why? Why would you assume in a division where every other competitor is over 200 pounds, why would you assume Dempsey wouldn't also be? The worst bit about your argument is saying Dempsey is not allowed to bulk up and them using the size disparity against him. You must be able to see how ridiculous that is?
Because nobody is talking about a bulked-up Dempsey...My post was in response to people like Perry and Reznick among others who believe that a 187 Jack could blow through Wlads opposition...if you want to bulk Dempsey up then you're free to do so. But that's not the point of my post, or the thread.
Can't argue with anything here as facts are facts. If he were around today Meehan would make a fine addition to one of the Hangover movies. They called him fat boy back then.
He has 3 KO losses, 2 to the Klitschkos who are statistically speaking, big finishers. 3 KO losses out of 40 fights is hardly "glass"
You don't get laid out they way he did vs helenius if you have a good chin. Macline in a the worst state of his life yoyo'd him up and down and would've finished the job in round 2 were it not for his dreadful condition. Who did Macline ever stop? Nobody. His stopping rate ranks below 50%
Vitaly couldn't stop old man briggs but put an end to Peters early. Lewis touched briggs and he went over
People are talking about a bulked up Dempsey as though this was a legitimate point to consider. Why don't we talk about a Tyson that never faded and trained seriously, or a Dokes that never did coke or a Duran that never went on eating binges between matches? So let's imagine a bulked up Dempsey at 210lb. I say that this musclebound iron pumper is WAY slower than Dempsey at 190, that his stamina will be sapped by all the extra oxygen-sucking muscle he is carrying and that as a result, he will be easier to hit than the lithe Dempsey that tore the ring up in his prime. Huge muscles don't necessarily mean a better fighter. Wlad is very muscular and when he went all out we saw him gas like a fish out of water. We are now stretching a hypothetical matchup into the realm of fantasy. What would be fair would be to compare Dempsey to cruiserweights. (And even there he would be smallish) My God, he really would tear folks a new one at that weight.
A bulked up birdyman beat Vitality, took Wlad 12, became a top ranking champ, then made Wlad champ when he was shot to bits. The era was absolutely dire.
