First, I'm taking the side of the next generation for this and assuming (quite possibly wrongly) that Fury, Wilder, and Joshua all win their upcoming bouts and maintain the title against any other non co champion challengers. Assuming that happens, I'm happy that at least it appears very likely that a full unification would be very likely to happen within a year or two at most. What sequence of fights do you want to see that happen in? Fury vs Joshua, then winner faces Wilder? Wilder Joshua, winner Fury? Or Fury vs Wilder, winner vs Joshua? I think the fair way would be Wilder Joshua, winner facing Fury, as Fury is the most legitimate champ and shouldn't have to fight two other champs on the heals of back to back wins over an ATG. Makes more sense too. Fury at this point appears to be tied up MUCH longer than the other two. Plus, Joshua will be on Showtime, Wilders network, this weekend. So, would be a big fight on Showtime in America, huge in GB, and the winner would really be considered a prime threat to Fury with a cross continental market primed for a huge fight. If Fury beats Wilder or Joshua first, he'll be the overwhelming favorite against the last belt holder, making for a less interesting fight. Your thoughts?
Out of those the fight that makes my testicles tingle is Wilder - Joshua with the winner fighting Fury.
That was my one hesitation picking Wilder Joshua first. But, while it won't be quite as good as an undefeated matchup of champs would be, Fury could still fight Wilder either as champ as a defense after beating Joshua, or as a "best of the rest" fight if Joshua wins out. Plus, Brits probably see Joshua Fury as almost as indispensable as Americans see Fury Wilder.
Looks like most are going for Wilder Joshua, winner facing Fury. Good decision, the more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the champ with the strongest resume to fight for each belt, if for no other reason than if he wins, he would be the big favorite in each match. If Wilder/Joshua fought first, there would be genuine doubt about who would win between the winner of that and Fury.
I think Fury Vs Joshua is actually quite close to happening. Klitschko isn't exactly forcing this rematch with Fury, no date, no venue and we are in April. I have a feeling Klitschko might give Fury a miss. Fury Vs Joshua, providing Joshua wins a world title would be a heavyweight unification fight between two unbeaten British heavyweights. Both are speaking about it, both fancy it and both know just how huge it would be. It really doesn't get bigger than that in the UK, that is 80,000+ at Wembley, that would sell out Wembley in minutes. Why would either risk ridiculously huge, career best paydays fighting anybody else, it's heavyweight boxing anything can happen. Do it as soon as possible while both are young, high profile and the heavyweight division in starting to get interesting again. So I see that happening if Klitschko isn't interested in a return with Fury, and again, providing Joshua wins and then the winner Vs Wilder/Povetkin. Just noticed I voted for the wrong fights I'd like to see Fury Vs Joshua then winner fight the winner of Wilder Vs Povetkin
I'd be good with that scenario. I was making the assumption that Fury would eventually rematch Wlad, but you're right, its been an absurd amount of time and suggests maybe Wlad doesn't want to come back after all. If so, Fury Joshua would make sense for them, certainly Fury, although I'm not sure Joshua would want to face him that quickly into his development.
It'd be silly if waldo dont sign this rematch. He was always good about righting his wrongs typically and I wouldnt think he lost that drive. Plus he's still very much in the loop of HW ranks and lots would pick him to rematch and win.
:good I personally think Wladimir isn't really interested, he wasn't cut, injured and didn't take a psychical beating in the fight with Fury, he was just outboxed and looked a little silly at times so I don't understand this lengthy delay. Also Klitschko thrived on what he perceived as psychological edges. Fury has taken them all away now, remember Wladimir wearing platforms at the head to heads? All these little things he did Fury laughed at him, dressed at batman, didn't take Klitschko seriously at all. I believe Wladimir has a good sense of humour and can handle most things but looking a fool isn't one of them and Fury in a rematch ridicules him at every presser and Wladimir can't really come back with anything, Fury beat him comfortably in his own backyard. The division is moving on at pace without Wladimir, it's quite sad in a way, he ruled for nearly a decade, lost to Fury and he has almost been forgotten, Fury is the new king, Martin/Joshua, Wilder/Povetkin, Haye has returned, lots of talk about Ortiz and Parker. Some really good and interesting fights to be made in the heavyweight division now, hopefully they do get made because the division needs it.
