Lewis claimed his eye was damaged in a fight with Abe Feldman in 1935. So with impaired vision he went 52-5-1, won the light-heavyweight title and defended it six times!

I think that really hurts his legacy. I first learned of him was by way Reading Counts the Louis fight.

KO - Who were some of the bigger names you wanted to work with?

EF - I also liked a light heavyweight named John Henry Lewis. He boxed Joe Louis and Joe knocked him out in one round. But i never saw a better light heavyweight than John Henry Lewis - with the exception of Billy Conn.

Futch used pictures of Conn in his gym as an example of how it should be done.
