I like jones stylistically over Charles, michael moorer was too big for him at 175 and fast enough to catch him,and of course he had the power to ice him, spinks can too, billy conn maybe can , tunney is jurassic, forget it

I wouldn't make anybody the favorite over Charles. That said, if I had to bet my house on anybody having to beat him... I would place that money on nobody other than Jones.

Over 15 rounds ... Matthew Saad Muhammad (when he was champ), Dwight Qawi (when he was champ), Michael Spinks, Roy Jones (pre-Ruiz), Sergei Kovalev (since he's been the champ), maybe even Tommy Hearns (when he fought Andries and when he fought Hill).

I think top light heavys who had very good power, were really busy and aggressive stood a better chance than light hitters (like Maxim) or guys who weren't really busy and might lay back and counter-punch (like Moore).

I was going to add Foster and Tunney, but I think Charles was more durable than Foster and would beat him in the later rounds. And Tunney ... I think Tunney might get edged.

But I'd take Saad Muhammad, Qawi, Spinks, Jones and Kovalev over Charles at 175 ... and give Hearns on those two title-winning occasions a good shot, too.

Charles got knocked out by a 165-pounder at light heavyweight. Monzon wasn't knocked out by a lightweight.

I think Michael Spinks could beat Charles. Maybe Roy Jones.

I would not favor any LHW over Ezzard Charles if he was at his absolute best but that doesn't mean that someone couldn't be upset.

    Those with the best chance-

    M. Spinks
    G. Tunney
    T. Loughran
    B. Foster
    R. Jones Jr.
    B. Hopkins
    D. Qawi
    B. Conn

I agree, Spinks was still a little green and Eddie at the peak of his powers.

I wouldn't make any 175 favorite over him, he is quite likely the best of the lot of them. I'd give Spinks and Foster a chance with their power and class but i would favor Charles over both. His stoppage loss to Marshall was early career and from many accounts he came in with a hip injury. He certainly had his revenge. He also had a shocker the fight before but again avenged.

From most accounts (particulalry Futch) i'd give Billy Conn a chance too.
