So this fight has been confirmed for July 9th How big is this for the legacy of Wladimir Klitschko ? If he wins how much will it boost his legacy? A lot of the greats who lost the title came back for a rematch in order to regain the title with mixed results. Opinions?
Whoever wins it wont affect your mother's placing at the top of the all time list of the biggest hoes in the history of the world, that legacy is set in stone.
Wlad's has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He could get blasted out in 1 round and it wouldn't hurt his legacy, at 40 years old. But if he wins the title back at 40 to the man who beat him it is a historic comeback. Lewis did it at 36 and it certainly strengthened his legacy. 2 defeats to Rahman and retirement would have Lewis rated far lower than his is now. Wlad's been around 20 years, had a longer winning run than Lewis, and is 40, so it would at least compared well to that example. Fury needs to win to keep his name from sliding down to the level of dismissal that people put on Leon Spinks.
I see a controversial ending...a disputed decision win for Fury....and there won't be a third match...Wlad will retire.
Like Lewis v Rahman, it's a loss no one expected and a victory that would bolster his standing historically. If Wlad loses again people would assume he's finished at the top level and Fury is the next dominant champ.
It's Fury by decision or by knockout, depending on Wlads mindset. I don't think Wlad has what it takes to beat him, certainly not at this stage or ever at all perhaps. Fury is pretty underrated. Reading articles on how he's primitive and unskilled makes me wonder whether these armchair experts even watched the fight, or knew what they were looking at. It was a negative affair and Fury looked pretty awkward as a 6'9'' giant bouncing around the ring but he put up a masterclass and embarassed a man that top trainers and fighters have been trying to solve for the last decade, without success.

Back to the topic at hand. I think it is EXTREMELY important for Wlad to win this fight. Fury is huge, but, is clearly not an elite fighter. If Wlad can not turn the tables on somebody as limited as Fury, I believe his entire legacy will suffer. And, rightfully so. If Wlad comes out and blasts out Fury, his legacy is probably cemented.
^ More or less this. Wladimir is in that comfortable zone where anything he does makes him look good and anything that he loses is dismissed on the grounds that "he was 40". To me he looks in great shape, better shape than Fury in appearance at least. I reckon he has the physical tools to wreck Fury's world for him. It is the mental department that I wonder about. Does he still have the fire? If he destroys Fury, spanks Wilder and drubs a couple of the young lions about, then retires, he will have done his legacy a huge boost and he can do this in the space of the next two years if he wants to.
