For the veterans of the board?

Is AJ's current hype machine with Sky TV & social media greater than the hype produced by that young feral child who was moulded by an eccentric legendary trainer In the mid-to late 80s?

Both tons of hype, but Joshua is deserving of even more hyoe, dudes going to dominate the division against large and talented fighters.

He's not ever going to fold like Tyson

I think it's really two different things. Joshua was an Olympic champion was already well-known because of his Olympic an amateur credentials. Tyson was more organic, almost mythical as word of mouth spread about this kid Dynamite. Joshua very polished with a press. Young Tyson was very polite, but he also had this prodigy awkwardness about him that made him fascinating.

Mike Tyson was a household name. Only boxing fans know who Anthony Joshua is

The Limeys are really backing AJ like he's the second coming of Lennox. And with all these boxing forums and social media there is now days making it possible for people to voice their opinions... I'd say AJ has more hype.

    mike tyson

it's not even close. mike was the most hyped heavyweight "champion to be" maybe ever

louis was hyped. clay was hyped (a lot for his mouth). but tyson takes the cake. he was a legend before he even won the belt.

I don't know. I also see a lot of British backlash against Joshua. Not sure why.

Nonetheless, all the backlash, mostly from the hardcores, is still feeding fuel to the hype.

    Tyson of course.
Every thread with this question, comparing popularity and/or hype of a current fighter vs Tyson always ends up with only one answer.
If you were 10 or over at Tyson's prime, you won't even need 2 seconds to think about it.

Tyson, and for good reason, the hype was real....I think people need to revisit what Tyson had accomplished by age 21, before even making such a misguided conparison.

Joshua was a good prospect, but now has been fast tracked to a paper title, the hype is largely exaggerated.
