So he's supposed to give up his strength advantage and move up just because he's built for power and not speed? He'd be a short middleweight and a severely undersized supermiddle weight. Not sure why people frown on guys choosing to fight at their best weight

He is very muscular. You don't need huge muscles to generate power. If he is too small for 160 then he should no bulk up as much and just fight at the super welterweight limit of 154. He is fighting 154 pound guys at 155. He comes into the ring bigger than some middle weights. If you cant see that he is stacking the deck then I cant help you.

Canelo only has a few more years if that to milk this 155 thing. When he gets close to 30 he wont be able to make weight. Even now the guy enters camp like 4 months before the fight. Sooner or later it will effect him. I would laugh if some bum mandatory were to catch a drained Canelo on the chin and knock him the fugg out!:rofl

I agree. Started out almost as a throwback type fighter.

I would say that is images already been tarnished with the catch weight nonsense. However, he could drop it and fight at the weight or even drop the belt stay at 155.

Give me a break. Almost all if his fights were at 154, he saw an opportunity to grab the middleweight belt so he took it. Was it held against alexis arguello for being a 5'10 flyweight? Everyone's body is different. What's the point of having weigh ins if your just going to visually decide what weight class a guy should be in

I think real fans will appreciate him taking on GGG whether he wins or loses without the silly catchweights, it's not as if Canelo is a midget. Doing the catchweight thing is obviously good for him on a business and strategic level, but that's also going down to Floyd or Pacquiao's level. That's why neither one will ever be a top 10 atg or be a real giant killer like Duran. But Canelo is definitely improving as a fighter, he's definitely no Salvador Sanchez, but he's an elite for sure. The Lara fight showed he could adapt against a slick fighter and focus more on the body than the head. I can understand Canelo getting some hate for the catchweight demand, he deserves it, but he gets so much hate, haters conveniently forget how Lara was getting exposed himself by showing a weak inside game, getting walked down by a fighter who isn't even a real pressure fighter. Canelo has beaten some very good fighters, he's easily on the same level as Lara, who's very underrated and I think would most likely beat all 160-168lbers except for GGG. Canelo is definitely a live dog against GGG as is Lara.

Canelo taking on Lara and Floyd showed me he's willing to take risks - I was gaining a lot of respect of him but ... the catch-weight nonsense is really wearing me.

If he fought at 154 and didn't take on GGG, I could accept it. Holding the linear Middleweight title hostage while refusing to fight at 160lbs or fight the #1 contender leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Why so mad ? I never mentioned anywhere Golovkin even lol.Making excuses already ?

Canelo never beat any of my favorite fighters, because i dont have such at his weight classes, you are the fan boy here and super mad.I dont even like Golovkin,he should go 168 if hes so good,as much as im concerned about it.

Canelo is one of the fighters with worth stamina ever, watch the Trout fight,it is very obvious. He cant cut off the ring at all, watch Lara fight.

Hes the last hope of Golden Boy company and cash cow, they would do everything to protect him,all he needs to do is go 12 rounds and he wins on the cards. But against Golovkin he wont be able to survive 12,therefore no fight yet,if ever.

Its not even Canelo`s fault he had to fight Cotto for wbc 160 lbs belt.Martinez sold that belt while fighting after injury and not recovered and lost against Cotto.Long time before that Cotto was chasing Canelo fight but lost to Trout at 154 and Canelo fought the winner instead.

All were saying that Canelo is big warrior and fights everybody until he started ducking Golovkin and picked Cotto then Khan,im saying he was fraud long time before that, not sure if he knows it or not but hes being gifted decisions he didnt earn through 12 rounds on points.

Yeah but I think he realized he has his limits after the Floyd and Lara fights.

Maybe. I think he mat have been emboldened by the Lara fight. He faced a guy who was a horrible match-up for him and edged out a victory.

The loss against Floyd means he doesn't have an "0" to protect, so I thought he would, if anything, become more adventurous.

He could still prove me wrong but he seems to be going in the other direction.

I don't get how fans reach this conclusion? Since the Mayweather fight in order fought Angulo in a stay busy fight vs a tough opponent, Lara in a big fight to determine the #1 JMW, Kirkland in a stay busy fight, Cotto in a mega fight, and is signed to fight Khan in a money fight.
Seems like a pretty good mix on paper that's a better run than most guys out right now.

Because hes defending one of the middleweight titles, not the 155 belt. If he doesnt want to defend the 160 belt or unify with the others at the 160 limit, he should drop back down to 154 and campaign there.

I believe he should drop back to JMW and clean it out until he is ready to be a full MW. This catch-weight BS in nonsense and I believe it will hurt him physically and legacy wise in the long run. I believe it will shorten his career.
