Is Canelo a disgrace to the middleweight title?

Disgrace is a hard word. But I'll just say I really dislike what is going on here with Canelo. He needs to stop masquerading as Middleweight Champion and drop the title.

It really is ridiculous. That would be the better word. Why these organizations don't say "enough" and strip him? I don't know, obviously money is the only thing I can think of.

I think so. If Canelo wants to keep fighting welterweights after he's done with Amir Khan, go to the welterweight division and fight those guys. He should drop the belt if he keeps doing that. If he's a middleweight champ, then he should fight middleweights.

 

Im a Canelo fan but im losing pateints with this ****, fighting for the lineal middleweight title at 155 against a blown up welterweight is indeed a disagrace and if it happens again he will ruin his legacy as it is making him look like a straight up ***gott afraid of the real challenge.

It was a disgrace that Floyd tried to Drain Canelo to 150 for a 154-lb title fight, where both guys held titles.

It was a disgrace that Cotto drained Middleweights like Geale to be unhealthy.

It was a disgrace that Floyd was allowed by the commissions to hold both 154-lb titles for 2+ years without having to defend them at LMW, so he could avoid rematching Canelo.

Due to this, Canelo has made the biggest fights available to him. Cotto was the fight that pretty much everyone wanted to see him fight last year.

Khan is the guy that pretty much everyone wanted to see Floyd fight. Khan walks around at 160+. Canelo fighting Khan at a 155 catchweight benefits Khan as he is coming up.

Unlike draining Middleweights like Cotto did to Geale, unlike what Floyd did to Canelo trying to get him down to 150, Canelo isn’t draining anyone.

What Cotto did at 160 and what Floyd did at 154 is a disgrace. Canelo isn’t like that. He’s not draining anyone, he’s holding the 160 belt because Cotto was holding it and that’s the fight that was demanded. He would probably be still defending his 154-lb belt if Floyd didn’t hold that division hostage for 2+ years. Not Canelo’s fault, Canelo is just going out there and making the biggest fights out there vs guys who aren’t scared of fighting him.

If you don't want to defend against middleweights then drop the title and carry on fighting at 155.

If you are looking to keep the belt then fight at the 160 limit.

 

First of all, the lineal MW title is a more prestigious title than the LMW titles.

Your idea to have Canelo dropping such a highly sought after title to fight non-title fights at 155 doesn’t sound like a good business move. The only way I can see Canelo dropping that title is if he was given an opportunity to capture his 154-lb title. But at this point, I’m not sure that makes sense.

It’s just amazing to see how many people here give Floyd a pass for trying to drain Canelo and give people a pass for Cotto draining Geale (an actual MW) but now jump all over Canelo for defending his title at 155 vs Amir Khan, a guy that was said to be the toughest fight out there for Floyd.

We as boxing fans should be praising Canelo for taking such a tough fight. Now if Canelo starts draining actual MWs down to 155 or even 157 like Cotto, then there’s a reason to criticize him. Until then, just enjoy Canelo - Khan and respect Canelo for respecting his opponents and the division that a title is held in. (unlike Floyd .. defending a 154-lb at 147-lb in Maidana 2 to avoid a Canelo rematch .. much much worse)

 

Yep him and Oscar between them are a disgrace. Its not just about GGG, what other true high ranked real Middleweights does Canelo and Oscar seem interested in facing as a Middleweight world champion? Why is he facing a Welterweight in Khan?
