Anthony Joshua set to avoid Tyson Fury's 9 July date clash

Anthony Joshua says he is "unlikely" to fight on 9 July because fellow British world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is defending his titles on that date.

Joshua, 26, won the IBF crown by beating Charles Martin on Saturday.

He is set to change his schedule to avoid clashing with WBA and WBO champion Fury's rematch with Wladimir Klitschko in Manchester.

"Let Fury and Klitschko have their day. Let's not mix anything up on 9 July," Joshua told BBC Radio 5 live.

"It was always in my mind to fight on 9 July but there are other dates as well, before and after 9 July.

"It will be good to sit back and watch the show and look at my competitors some time in the future."

hardly call this "bottles out" , its business at end of day and these two parties will be doing a lot of it together in future , these two camps might not be top of each others xmas card lists but they are not going to do something stupid enough to put a future superfight that will generate truck loads of money at risk .

Because Fury v Wlad is number 1 g number 2 in the division going at it. Where as Joshua will be fed another bum.

That's one limitation of matchroom, their governed by Sky in regards to their dates. Sky have to fit the boxing around other sporting events which they see as a priority.

Best move for both promoters, all fighters and all the fans.

However, makes Hearn look like a bit of a tit for getting all excited in the ring after Joshuas victory and saying they might look at July 9th. Shows that there is still a bit of immaturity in Hearn.

People with some brains at SKY probably told Eddie to ditch the idea.
I think they had a word on Sunday with him, because since then he's been sounding like he's backing down.

Body builder certainly has the media on his side.
For those who actually know boxing and actually pay to watch it, we understand that body builder is a hype job and needs to fight someone who will not lay down for him and punch back

    True.
But he looked like a tit anyway, whether he carried through with it or not.
He's been looking more and more of a tit ever since he made and announced the Joshua-Martin "world heavyweight championship" fight.
I don't blame him for grabbing the opportunity, but the way he's been promoting himself and AJ in recent months is a little ridiculous. I mean, there's a point where the hype reaches unnecessary levels and begs for a backlash, but Hearn will never see that.

The nice thing is that AJ himself hasn't been fooled by the hype.

They will probably go the week before at the O2. Hearn does seem to be itching to do a Wembley event though.

ESB idiots are out in force. In what universe was a July 9th date between Fury v Joshua ever realistic?

Malik Scott vs Femi is even less attractive than Martin vs Femi, unless you are a clueless casual. Wlad Fury 2 is the real deal.

think you read it wrong pal. Hearn said he was going to do AJs first defence on July 9 which would clash with Fury Klitschko rematch
