With only slightly more as a month to go, Wilder has signed to finally meet up with his #1 contender and WBC "silver" beltholder Povetkin, in defense of his WBC belt.

The fight will take place at the Megasport arena in Moskow, and VADA will do the drugtesting (which doesn't say too much anymore with so little time left towards the fight).

May the best man win! :bbb

It's hilarious that Wilder waited until after the Joshua/Martin fight took place to sign the contract to fight Povetkin. I guess those rumours that he was looking to dump the belt to fight for the IBF if Martin won were true :rofl:rofl

Good, i was never fully convinced this fight was gun happen until it was signed. Rooting for Wilder here i am a bit of a fan. But saying that Povetkins so much more skilled than anybody Wilder has faced and Wilder never really outboxed anybody that was half as good as the Russian. And for all the physical advantages Wilder holds over Povetkin he isnt discaplined to use them in a game plan and stick to that plan. Povetkin will not struggle to get in range of Wilder.

I think we may see a more disciplined Wilder in the Povetkin fight. I am only basing this of the Stiverne fight, however. I know Stiverne is no Povetkin, but it is the one fight in Wilder's career were there was some doubt over Wilder coming away with the victory going into the fight. Wilder fought a very clever, patient and tactical fight that night.

Against Povetkin i feel he will attempt to do the same; use his height, long jab and quick feet to maintain distance and fight of the back foot. Wilder is a much better fighter and makes less mistakes when he is reacting to his opponents aggression rather than when he is being proactive and initiating the action himself.

Good reply, he did seem more focussed in the Stiverne fight and i have to agree he does look his worst when he is free to do as he pleases. He certainly has the tools at his disposal should he learn to or want to use them properly. I hope your right i would love to see him beat a real division big gun.

He can still claim an injury and pull out.

    Me, too.

Wilder's choice of opponents haven't been the best, but if he can start to pick up a win or two against top level opposition then it can only be good for the sport to have a genuine world class American HW champion with knockout power.

If he can remain undefeated and Joshua can remain undefeated, and importantly, one of them dethrones Fury, i really can't see a bigger or more exciting fight to be made than between two undefeated, heavy handed, exciting HW's. The UK v USA rivalry adds an extra level of spice as well.
