Sure, there are videos of lions that fought on even terms with crocodiles (winning some, losing some) but they almost never initiate. Usually it happens under circumstances where they are forced into the water by another enemy or have their prey snatched by the croc - engaging only in desperation and usually retreating when prudent.

Jags are half lions' size and they pick those battles. They also have the most powerful bite of all big cats.
