Because maybe he wants to get some leeway when the actual negotiations start? They know nothing serious right now is taking place so they'll try to play tough, we'll see what happens when they are actually negotiating a fight though, it will probably be something like 157-158.

Taking everything that fighters say as fact is silly as hell.

considering ggg has made past statements and then had to retract them or change their course...or was that just the fans that did that for him?

 

OK man, GGG said it has to happen at 160 before either of them started any negotiations, the fight's off, 100% not happening now.

 

if yer gonna say that....and then retract it...why bother saying it all....say "im interested in fighting canelo...i want that belt....but well have to see what happens when they are ready to fight"....just easier....considering gggs already gotten flack for making comments and then not following up on them

ggg isnt alone by any means...tons of guys say stupid stuff...i just never got that...i understand its the entertainment business and all......but why say things u have no intention of doing?

if ggg says "nothing less than 160" and then goes to canelo and says "ok ill do 157"...he isnt fooling anyone...ggg needs to take this strap off of canelo or its not gonna do anything for him

 

Beats me, mostly for posturing to the other party I'd guess, doubt they care much about any flack they'll receive for it from a few fans.

 

Good and I respect that. But I also love when fights take place on equal terms. Even if it means the fight has to wait a few years to make sense. But trying to drain another middleweight titlist to 155, sorry that is just beyond ridiculous.
