When he was an amateur Errol Spence was pretty badly exposed by two fighters, once in the 2011 AIBA World Championships against lighting fast masterful Kazakh Welterweight southpaw Serik Sapiyev against whom he was thoroughly schooled and made to look impotent, even getting a bloody nose in the process, he stood frozen in the middle of the ring as Sapiyev darted in and out peppering him with 3 and 4 punch combinations, literally Boxing circles around Spence who seemed utterly helpless at times. Granted there's nothing to be ashamed of in losing to Sapiyev since he also holds wins over Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Taras Shelestyuk, Karl Dargan, Kevin Bizier and also happens to be the Gold Medalist at Welterweight in the 2012 London Olympics, but it should be acknowledged, since it may prove to be a stumbling block in the future.

    Here it is.

The second fighter he struggled with was Russian Welterweight 2012 Bronze Medalist Andrey Zamkovoy. Zamkovoy was the man who eliminated Spence in the Quarter Finals in 2012, he fought a rough and rugged fight, Zamkovoy also happens to be a southpaw as well, he countered Spence well, and wore him out with his very physically exhausting style. Spence was getting pretty desperate by the end of the match. Zamkovoy is okay, but not all that special, and he ended up making Spence look fairly average.

    The fight is a 36m 41s

Granted thus far in his short career as a pro Spence seems to be the real deal, or as he calls himself the Truth, and he very well may be, because he seems to have improved greatly since turning pro, although that may be because he's been in against lesser competition, dominating wins over Chris Van Heerden and Phil Lo Greco don't really mean a hell of a lot, and as far as Chris Algieri goes. He would have always beaten Chris, probably even in his first year as a pro, and that's not because Chris sucks, it's just because Spence has the worst imaginable style for Algieri, and would probably lose to Spence 10 out of 10 times.

And here's another reality check, Algieri doesn't have the chin to make it at WW, the only reason he did so well against Khan was because Khan has zero power, so as long as he has someone who can't hurt him, Chris has a chance, kind of like Paulie Malignaggi.

    Keith Thurman
    Shawn Porter
    Kell Brook
    Egidijus Kavaliauskas

    Would've all brutally stopped Algieri.

    And....
    Danny Garcia
    Jessie Vargas
    Felix Diaz
    Frankie Gomez
    Sadam Ali
    Sammy Vasquez
    Adrien Broner
    Taras Shelestyuk
    Ivan Golub

All have a pretty damn good chance at it as well.

Another interesting observation is, everyone Spence has faced to date have been featherfisted. Lo Greco 50% KO ratio, Van Heerden 44% KO ratio, and both Algieri and Bundu have 33% KO ratio. It seems like he's virtually running from power punchers like he's allergic to them.

Check out the 7th round of his fight against Lartey... again a SOUTHPAW, he was rocked badly at the end of the round, and was in total survival mode in the 8th, could he be packing china?:think

Now what'll be fun is seeing Spence try to walk down and pressure a guy, who's going to be hitting him back as hard as he's attempting to hit them, which won't be that easy since they both have good defense.

Everyone who Spence has fought to date has been made to order for him, even Bundu, but eventually fighters come face to face with an opponent who isn't, styles make fights and clearly the styles of the two southpaws in the clips above were an issue, how many other styles could be a potential issue for Spence in the future? That remains to be seen, but every fighter seems to have their own personal JMM to be a pain in their ass, who will be his?

He just beat Bundu by KO, while impressive, Bundu is 41 years old, far shorter, huge reach disadvantage and was in his face giving him ample opportunities. Remember Keith dropped him with a jab, Bundu is a featherfisted pressure fighter, another fighter handpicked to make Spence look impressive. And he still hasn't improved his defense all that much, and has bad habit of pulling straight back, that could prove to be a costly mistake in the future against someone with who packs more than a 33% KO ratio.

Spence is very good, no doubt.....but calm the hell down he beat Algieri, that doesn't mean he can take MONEY FREAKING MAYWEATHER, Canelo Alvarez and the majority of the JMW division quite yet.

Yeah and now he's faced all time great world beaters like Lo Greco, Algieri and Van Heerden, he's gotten so much experience under his belt.....now he's ready to dominate every fighter from 147 to 168.

Actally for most guys with less the 20 fights, Lo Greco, Van Heerden and Algieri are pretty solid competition.

Literally no one has said stuff like "he'll beat everyone to 168" so why even say nonsense like that.

In my opinion hes top 4 at WW right now, and could easily be number 1 if hes able to get in the ring with the other guys.

Algieri almost beat Khan and did beat Provo and had never been stopped.
    Porter couldn't stop Lo Greco.
Van Heerden had never been stopped either.

Its the way in which he is beating guys, and not simply that he is beating them

Hes also spent the last 4 years sperring with some of the best fighters in the world like Mayweather, so yes, I think hes a completely different fighter to the kid who fought in the world championships.

spence is a good fighter who found a style and experience of a fighter in sapiyev who he could not cope with.

dont remember this fight / as an amatuer
sapiyev style is very good as he is tall /loose /southpaw/quick hands / brilliant light feet that never plant and throws without being set/

but it would be very hard to

maintain over 12 whereas spence style is.

spence will come across styles that dont suit him and 6.0 tall /very fast southpaws at 147 are in every promoters phonebook as red numbers not to call even in emergencies

Inoue stopped Narvaez who Donaire couldn't stop in his 8th fight at 21 years old, that is impressive.
Beterbiev ripping Cloud to shreds in two rounds who was the former Light Heavyweight Champion in his 6th fight was impressive.
Lomachenko beating Gary Russell Jr. in his 3rd pro fight was impressive.

A guy beating up also rans and fringe contenders 20 fights in, isn't all that impressive, especially since Algieri has a style made to order for Spence and he's been down what 8 times in recent fights?

And yeah the 168 thing was an embellishment, but it wouldn't shock me to hear that coming out of someone's mouth.

You try way too hard to prove that he is no good. What's not to like about him. His attack to the body is beautiful. The hook he put Algieri down for the last knock down was pitch perfect. With him and Bud we have a breeze a fresh air and we should celebrate it. Those guys will only make the WW division more exciting.

Beterbiev went pro when he was 28, after a long/storied amateur career.
Spence went pro at 22, so you're comparing apples and oranges.

Loma who had a full season of WSB behind him, was the same age Spence is now when he won his first title, and I expect Spence could well win a title this year

If Algieri was a style made to order, why did you think he'd give Spence such a hard fight?
You didn't see that 5 round blow out coming

To be honest, I didn't see Algieri giving him a tough fight, I didn't want to admit it since I'm an Algieri fan be I kind of thought he would be blown out by him, I was going to change to KO in Kirk's thread, but resisited beause I was hoping for the best, but the fact I didn't go with my Ko is the reason why I automatically switched to Russll by KO a few minutes later.

What excuse do you have for Inoue?

I'm not trying to prove he's not good, I'm just trying to bring some of the posters on here back down to earth, and show that he's human and fully capable of being outboxed, just in the past day I've seen mentions that Spence beats Canelo, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Thurman, Brook, Porter and Garcia. Jesus Christ.:patsch

I don't have an "excuse". Are you suggesting that because Inoue did what he did, that means Spence isn't that good and is still the same fighter he was when 21 fighting 3 rounders with head gear?

Unless you win a title in your first 5 fights, you're kinda average and not worth talking about and a bit of a hype job?
