why didn't francesco damiani fight mike tyson ?

Tyson was coming off a 2 year layoff prior to the Botha fight.

Botha was put to sleep with the first solid shot Tyson landed.

 

... and it took Tyson 5 rounds to land a solid shot against a guy that's not particularly hard to hit :hey

 

It's going to be difficult when you've come in at a career heaviest after a 2 year layoff.

 

Point is that Damiani was a big guy with skills and a chin and Tyson had looked less than invincible against similar opposition. Damiani said that he could have been in Tokyo vs Tyson instead of Douglas, and frankly I think that he could have put up an excellent fight there as well. Props to Douglas, he was on fire that night, but overall, Damiani > Douglas.

 

Botha fought a shell of Tyson in 1999.


Damiani came from the 1980's early 90's. He would have met a much better Tyson than the one of 1999.
