After all his guff before Frampton v Quigg he didn't half look a fool with the way things turned out. Young, inexperienced Shane mcGuigan completely got the better of him and showed him up.
Can you imagine if Rob McCracken sought adulation and fame the way Gallagher does? He'd win every award going several times over. If you had the choice of your son training with McCracken or Gallagher you'd be signing the contract with Rob as quick as humanly possible.
completely agree regarding rob McCracken, he changed the mindset of the amateur set up to be more professional in UK before 2012 and look at the results. Better top all round amateurs who go into the paid ranks better prepared. He also was Carl Froch's long time trainer and stratergist, not always successful but hard to knock Froch's achievements when he was never the best of boxers.
Rob McCracken is the best trainer in Britain by some distance IMO. Shame he isn't taking the credit for AJ and working with many more pro's.
Most ridiculous gameplay was Liam smiths against John Thompson, first couple of rounds he was practically giving it away
Seem a weird strategy of his too give early rounds away it's mental. I don't like the lack of head movement approach either but think Callum Smith will be ok with it as has great timing and a huge reach but would still improve if he got him to do this. It's a basic boxing thing anyone on here could train a fighter to do. He clearly must tell them not to do it
I fear Gallagher will prove a hindrance to Callum Smith. He is getting fed people who don't fight back - granted Fielding was a local rival but it isn't good prep for a title shot when you fight someone who doesn't fight back. Jack, Degale will not let him just tee off on them. IMO he should take the Groves fight. I think it's one he wins and put him in a perfect spot for a title challenge as it will be a good fight and Groves will present challenges he has not faced before. I do think Groves isn't the same as previous Froch 1, lacks explosiveness but he has a good jab and is awkward.
Frampton was spot on before the fight when he said Quigg's lack of intelligence would be his downfall. It was like a scene from Dumb and Dumber when Gallagher told him the Sky scorecard after Round 8.
Everyone seems to blame Joe for his boxers lack of head movement, I'm not so sure , ALL his boxers would of been taught to slip a punch at some stage in there carreer .. If at this stage they are not evading punches and eating jabs , its down to them being either DUMB non thinking boxers , or SLOW at the level there fighting .. either way he has to improve them has there trainer , myself i just think it shows that above a certain level matchroom are getting the good fights cfor Joes fighters has opposed to them actualy having the talent
A lot of the training clips from the Gallagher gym revolve around moving a huge tyre around the car park and then hitting it with a sledge-hammer.
Used to train myself 40 odd years ago using sledgehammers and car tyres, Its not new, great exercise its just old fashioned methods , But parrying , blocking , slipping punches is all just basic boxing , and to reach the level they have reached they would know the basics ,, I just don't think he encourages basics enough , i think Joe actually overthinks the game in his quest to be smarter than anyone else .. Basicly he just thinks its about him ... My old trainer used to tell everyone who stepped on the gym , first you have to learn to box , but then more importantly you have to learn to think ,, he would say , when the bell goes son , you have got a very short time to work out your opponent , and if he does'nt do what we expected him to do , and you can't think of an answer , i'm not in there , i can;t stop the fight to tell you,so unless you can out think him your ****ed . I believe that Callaghers ego of being the boss is what lets him down he does'nt want thinking boxers , he wants controlled robots , and when the opponent does'nt do has expected , and thinks about his game , Joes fighters are ****ed , cos they don't do it in the gym
