Probably exaggerated but I heard that Golovkins twin brother was rated an even better amateur boxer but never turned pro.
Anyone know what his record was?

You get it with footballers too.

"Oh you think he's good you should of seen his brother he was even better but he....."

If he was good enough he'd be in there making millions and not just polishing gennadys belts.

They were saying the same thing about Haroon Khan until we got to have a look at him.

What happened to "Harry" Khan anyway? Did they just decide not to bother anymore?

I'm sure I read somewhere that one of Golovkin's siblings died whilst serving in ththe army.

Is this the brother the OP is referring to?

Edit: ignore that. He means his twin brother Maxmim who reports suggest was also a gifted amatuer. I didn't even know he was a twin!

I remember reading that both Gennady and his brother Max were both **** hot amateurs, both winning tournaments across Europe but obviously refused to fight one another.

Then when the Olympics came around, they had to make the decision as to which one of them would go. GGG was the one who was more into and dedicated to the sport and he went, Max walked away.

I'm sure I also heard that they had another brother or perhaps another 2 brothers who died in the army. Then because boxing is a dangerous sport, if something happened to either GGG or Max it would mean that there mother had lost all of her kids - therefore only GGG continued to box and Max gave it up.

    Whether that's true or a load of *******s I don't know.

Above sounds right. Older brother let's younger one go to Olympics and live the dream.

    I read this, too.

The brother is meant to be very intense and and a bit of a hot head.

Could one or the other have not have 'stepped down' from the competition had they met? Quite an open question, but seems a very easy problem to solve if they had an agreement of sorts of who would 'prevail' in tournaments and take pecking order. I may be being petty and complicating things, but my proposed idea would have still bolstered his twin's career.

Gennady has mentioned his brother himself in an interview sometime.
