Who were the best fighters with at least 20 world title fight wins? Chavez went 32-4-1 in world title fights Lopez 25-0-1 (19) Louis 26-1 W. Klitschko 25-3 Ali 22-3 Holmes 21-5 Morales 20-6 Barrera, Mayweather, Hopkins, Calzaghe Who comes to mind? Who was the best?
Virgil Hill - 24-4. Though not typically viewed as one of the "best" champions to have numbers like that.
Floyd Mayweather has, I believe, 26 wins in title fights. (No losses, no ties.) Dariusz Michalczewski has 25 title fight wins from light heavy to cruiser. Roy Jones has something like 23 wins in title fights from middleweight to heavyweight (and that's not including IBOs, IBCs, WBUs and belts like that). Sven Ottke has 22 wins in title fights. (No losses, no ties.)
This is what annoys me right. Today there can be 4 or more men racking up "title victories" in the same division. How is that indicative of anything. Lineage isn't a huge boost to greatness but it does differentiate the champs and the contenders.
Eubank did rack up some numbers as WBO Champ. He was never the recognized Word Champ but he had a belt that said World Champion on it for a long time. Sugar Ray Robinson, perhaps the greatest boxer of all time, was just a little shy of 20.. he should have had way more than 20 though. Azumah Nelson came close. Sugar Shane Mosley came close, and did it at 135, skipped 140, 147, and 154. Oscar DeLaHoya went 25-6 in world title fights over 6 weight divisions. 31 of his 45 pro fights were world title fights! Felix Trinidad went 20-1 in 3 weight divisions. Duran- 16 Hearns- 15 and a draw Hagler- 13 and a draw Leonard- 10 and a draw Holyfield- 16 and 2 draws I'm sure there is a point to all of this.
