We all know about his weird fight vs Glazkov and quick loss to AJ. But how did Martin earn IBF #2 ranking? Glazkov at least got few wins over ranked fighters (some fights he really lost - vs Cunningham and Scott). But how one can get #2 if he never in his career beat TOP-50 opponent?
Was he really #2? Because vacant fight´s dont always happen between the nr#1 and 2 guys. Hell, a lot of times the IBF don´t even have the top 2 or 3 contenders ranked. The spots are just empty. But i digress. Martin got it because he is black. And i am not even trolling. The IBF are corrupt that way.
He is black and based in the USA. For the IBF, he would reach a demographic that they are looking to sell the fights to, and the large internal US based audience Its the same reason why Wilder was gifted a title shot after knocking over a load of unranked bums by the WBC. Brian Nielsen did the same thing for more years than Dee-On-Tay and was never given a shot at the title...
