Loudon, this is a perfect post:good. But even when one recognizes Mayweather's greatness, that's not even enough for his fans. Utterly ridiculous. They are blind.

"Hagler just sat and waited for the other to move up":patsch? You are aware that Hagler is 3rd on the all time list with 12 or 13 middleweight title defenses, aren't you? "The rest were all duck artist who only fought each other":patsch. Even if that was true, which it isn't, that means they still took more chances than Floyd did because they happened to have fought each other. Now for the million dollar question, just who did the "duck artist"::patsch duck:lol:?

Well Ring Magazine IS owned by the same past prime DLH that fought Floyd as he lost a close decision to him. Added to the fact that no one takes the Ring seriously as in the past, and it isn't known as a bastion of boxing integrity where it was way back when.

Close decision in name only anyone who knows the sport realizes that pbf won that fight going away with the deck stacked against him it was a underrated win if anything. The ring has more credibility than anyone here their ranking will stand the test of time.

No question Floyd won the fight. No question. But it was close nevertheless. However, The Ring hasn't had integrity since DLH bought it. I even stopped my subscription because it became a propaganda vessel for his hoyaness.

I can't believe that Willie thinks Floyd would have outsmarted and beaten Hearns.

How could he have outboxed him?

How could he have out fought him?

There's no way he could have won that fight.

Stylistically, it would have been just a horrible match up.

:goodI couldn't agree more! Tommy's big weakness was his mediocre chin, but that was against guys who were naturally as big or bigger and big punchers themselves, neither of which Floyd is. The funny part is no way Floyd gets into the ring against prime Tommy. Just ain't happening.

Floyd who fought JLC, Maidana, and DLH gets KO by any of these.

Floyd who beat Corrales survives a lopsided UD agaist him.

    I agree entirely.

A few people have mentioned lesser fighters having beaten Tommy. Well sure, but Barkley and Marvin having aggressively fought Tommy at higher weights, has no bearing on how Floyd would have faired against him at WW. Floyd has zero power. He couldn't have hurt Tommy, and he couldn't have deterred him from coming forward.

People forget that a guy like Ray was bigger than Floyd, he was stronger, he had much more fire power and he had the will to fight Tommy to get the job done. No disrespect to Floyd, but he didn't possess Ray's attributes. So you're talking about a 5'8, safety first fighter with little power, fighting a 6'1 WW, with a 78" reach, who possessed a great jab and a devastating right hand. Floyd couldn't have turned the heat up like Ray did. Not because he wasn't as skilled, but because he wasn't as big or as powerful. As soon as Tommy would have stepped on the gas, Floyd would have covered up and gone into survival mode. He wouldn't have been busy enough offensively to have banked enough rounds.

Again, I won't really argue with anyone who rates Floyd higher. But in a head to head fight, there's just no way Floyd could have beaten him. Not only that, like you've alluded to, you have to ask yourself honestly whether Floyd would even have taken such a fight. And seeing how he's carried himself over the years, in my opinion, the answer would be a resounding no.

Do ya'll forget montreal Duran. He would have mugged FM the same way he did Leonard. The parties celebrations and eating in between those fights were the beginning of his demise but up until then the power, strength, aggression relentlessness and genuine hatred of his opponents would have been way too much for FM too handle. Leonard was just as smart ,fast and defensive as him but was way more offensive. He was a very good puncher. The reason he overcame Hearns the 1st time was because he was the better puncher.
