I doubt that Ali really disliked Joe. All for show. Joe was a warrior and make no mistake !

In his final years Frazier sparred with a mayor. The mayor took it easy on Frazier. Beyond shot Frazier was still game. Worth seeing for that alone even of a straw weight jab would have floored him.

In the Hauser biography, Ali's last quote regarding Joe Frazier: "I'm sorry I hurt him. Joe Frazier is a good man ... and if God ever calls me to a holy war, I want Joe Frazier fighting beside me." About as good a tribute as I imagine you could find ...

Don't believe all the rubbish. Ali loved Frazier and respected him massively. I think both meant a lot to each other tbh.

If Ali did it all for show, that makes all the slurs and name-calling 100X worse, in my opinion! Even more classless and disgraceful.

45+ years of hindsight there. Society has changed; Ali in 'boxing promotion' did nothing wrong for the 70s; of course what he did and said looks terrible in today's society.

No matter what era, Ali crossed the line in his treatment of Joe.

    It was indeed a disgrace.

    Ali's entourage weren't much better.

I'll never forget or forgive Ferdie Pacheco's comments about Joe on the HBO Thrilla in Manilla documentary. 40 years later and that ars e hole was still going along with calling Joe an ugly gorilla. I can accept the other Ali toadies and sycophants trotting that garbage out but Pacheco was an educated man and should know better than to say racist, nasty garbage like that.

No, it was within the bounds of social decency for the 70s. I think it is forgotten how far we have come. Only a few years before Ali/Frazier, John Lennon was mocking disabled people on stage during a concert, which no one even blinked at, but the moment he 'possibly rightly at the time' pointed out The Beatles were 'bigger' than Jesus, all hell broke loose...

"within the bounds of social decency", my ass.

You don't have a clue, pal.

Ali was disgraceful in his treatment of a good man like Joe Frazier.

:huh So since it was within the bounds of social decency, I take it you blame Frazier for being a hyper-sensitive cry-baby for getting angry at Ali and holding a grudge at being called an Uncle Tom, an ugly gorilla, and other racial epithets??

In 100 years’ time, somebody will hold this up as evidence, that he was no good in his prime!

There was nothing about the 70's that made what Ali did in any way acceptable. It's the fact that Ali's fans ate it up and Fraziers fans and Ali haters found what he said deplorable.

Ali FIRST wanted to sell tickets and SECONDLY was trying to get a phycological edge over Joe.
