Tyson at his peak a monster - clash lined up with Holyfield but then was shocked by Douglas. Clash again lined up with Holyfield in 92 but this time a prison sentence scuppered that. They finally met in November 1996 and Holyfield done him fair and square. But there are certain people who believe Holyfield done a Tyson past his best and would have been knocked out had the fight took place before Tysons enforced 3 and half year inactivity. Tyson bragged at his peak he would have 'gutted him like a fish' But I disagree I believe Holyfield always had the mental psycolgoical edge over Tyson and the style and physical tools to beat Tyson at any stage of his career. He had the toughness to weather the early Tyson onslaught and not **** his pants like a Michael Spinks. And Tyson was never invincible - the loss to Douglas was mostly down to the fact Douglas fought the fight of his life. Oliver McCall said Buster Douglas was the best fighter he ever fought. Alot of hype about Tyson but for me Holyfield is the greatest.

Holyfield is one of the most successful heavyweights of all time - like in the top ten greatest ever. Tyson is lower down that pecking order.

they are just statisitcs - his record his way more impressive than some undefeated young pretender. and some of these losses have come when he is over 40 yrs old - and he should of retired years ago. I'm talking about a 20 something Holyfield a Holyfield who knocked out Adilson Rodriguez out cold with one punch who smashed up Buster Douglas in three rounds and took part in the greatest trigoly with Bowe in the 90's Bowe beat him twice but styles make fights - he always had Tysons number.

Tyson would have never beat Holyfield. Holyfield was far mentally superior to Tyson.

i like holyfield but i think tyson would have stopped him pre buster douglas b4 he lost interest in the sport, tyson may have even beat him in there 1st fight if holyfield wasnt butting the **** outa him and douglas shouda been counted outa anyways that was the slowest 10 count i have ever seen when mike knocked him down at the end of round 8.

holy was all "geared" up (miraculously cured himself from a heart impairment, bald at age 29, was only fazed by some very hard shots only a few times) for the tyson fights and tyson's skills had eroded. i still credit holy for the win. you have your opinion, but prime f prime, i'll take tyson

funny i just watched the first fight again this morning, Real Deal was too much 4 Tyson in any era.
Tyson was great but Evander just had his number. Not scared,
    This content is protected
able to take his power and bully him- thats alot out of the Tyson armoury.

    He'd always beat Tyson though,prime for prime;
Tyson would be screwed once Holy has got through the first 3 rounds.
    Anyway,he WAS 'that great':deal

It just kills the Tyson groupies that Evander Holyfield schooled Tyson the way he did!

For goodness sake, that was not a prime Holyfield who fought Tyson on those two occasions.

I am totally concinved that Holyfield would have beaten Tyson much more decisively before Tyson lost to Douglas.

Holyfield had so much more speed and quickness back in his early days as a Heavyweight.
.....but the thing that convinces me even more is that when both fighters age and lose speed, quickness, and agility.....its usually the physically stronger and more powerful fighter that benefits from a later matchup.
Holyfield actually bodied up Tyson up close and walked him down almost at will when they finally did meet.
With the know how to smother Tyson's big shots, it completely nullified Tyson's power.

With more speed, quickness, agility, and stamina for Holyfield. It would have been much worse for Tyson had the fight taken place earlier.

Holyfield was one of the more highly conditioned fighters in his early days as a Heavyweight.....can you imagine? Tyson who looked like he wanted spots to rest when he fought a past prime Holyfield, would have been gasping for breath with a prime ready to fight 3 minutes of every round Holyfield!
